Considering something CRAZY! Getting opinions/thoughts.

Before I start I just want to say I enjoy driving my Si and I love Honda's cars. However, I've been thinking more and more lately about selling it for something better even though it is going to be paid for here in 3 months. The caveat is that I just got out of the military on Friday (yippee! ) to finish college in the Fall so I can't really afford a car payment on something I would really like to have like a WRX or a EVO VIII. That's when I started looking into a 240SX. More accurately, a 240SX with a SR20DET swap. The prices on these cars are insanely low, they come rear wheel drive, and for roughly around 5Gs total for the car and engine you have yourself a 205 hp (to the fly), rear wheel drive, turbo charged monster. On top of that, the engine can handle up to 13-15psi on the stock turbo and injectors. The engine internals can handle up to around 22psi! I'd like to see my Si do that without beefing the engine up. Anyway, I'm thinking of selling my Si and bankrolling the car with the money made off of it and adding a few extras to it with the additional funds. Any of you cats got any thoughts on this? Honest opinions please as this is something I am honestly considering. Thanks all. Laters.

hey man, if this idea seriously suits your financial situation better than what you're involved in now, GO FOR IT- why not try something new anyways?! I know I'd have fun whipping the the 240 around that you have plans of building, especially if its fully paid off with the sold si $$$ right from the get-go : on a side note, please PM me so i can give you my email address & AIM sn, I have to ask you a few questions about some parts- peace

I'm strongly leaning towards it. It'll probably have to wait until June so the car can be paid off fully and all of the money made off of the sale can be put towards the 240. In the meanwhile, I'll need to find a good condition 240 (looking at a S13 chassis) with manual transmission, all of the niceties I already have (i.e. A/C, Power Steering, Cruise, etc.), and within a reasonable distance from me. I also need to see if this will pass the wife test. I don't think she'll be pleased if I bought a car that needed work done to it every other week (read my friend's second gen RX-7) after owning a car that had low miles and no problems what so ever. Thanks for the input so far. Peace.

Well looking for a car didn't take long. I found one in Dallas with everything I want on it for around 2Gs. Now I just need to pay off my car and sell it (oh yeah, and check with the missus ). After that then I can put the "For Sale" sign up and see who bites. Hopefully I can get around $13.5K to $14 for it with all of the stuff on there still installed plus the stock parts. That'll give me around $10Gs to play with for the car. That would be kick ass. Let's just hope the wife says it's all good. Wish me luck!

Just remeber you will have to put up with the headaches of a used older car with a engine swap. If you have the patience, go for it. Just keep in mind swaps and turbo jobs are always more involving and costly than originally anicipated.

Well, I still haven't asked the missus yet. She had a pretty crappy day at work yesterday and all so I'll need to ask her today. And as far as the car in Dallas, someone else got a leg up on me before I could get in touch with the guy so I lost out. I guess I still need to find a car and pay mine off anyway so I think I might just wait until I'm ready before I ask her. Thanks for the input all. Peace.

How was your Corrado when you first got it and did all of the mods that you have? Did you have a difficult time of it? Was it actually easier than you thought? I know its apples and oranges comparing a Nissan and a VW, but some insight on what I might be getting into would be great.

When I first got the car it ran decently but was bone stock, most of the went to fixing the shot stock suspension parts like shocks etc. and a few misc sensors. Then I went with a exhaust and filter, that helped a little. Then I turned up the boost on the factory supercharger to 14psi and it was a day and night difference. I drove like that for a while till about 1 year 1/2 later and then max boost was a 10 at redline. Upon further inspection I found some supercharger seals in one of the tubes. So I decieded to ditch the whole mess and go turbo. But unexpected things happen when you go turbo and things they dont tell you when you buy:

1)Fit can be close and may require milling or cutting for clearances
2) I had to trim my rear motor mount for the oil drain not to crimp
3)Timing should be dead on or it the turbo will get hot as shit
4)downpipe and manifold bolts WILL loosten faster than you expect
5)min you MUST have to prevent engine damage is a boost guage
, Air fuel guage, and a EGT is not a bad idea.
6) Expect to weld some pipes
7)Stock exhaust sucks, you need at least a 2 1/2 or bigger min
8)you need a boost controller unless you plan running the stock boost the turbo is set for ex. Garrett T3/60 trim is 6-8 psi. They creep at redline to 18 psi(in my case), then you have to dial it in.
9)Your tranny or clutch may not like the extra power
10)underhood Temperatures will be hot as hell, CAI is a good idea.

What the funk!?

First off, what the funk happened to SHO!? Is it just me or was everyone else unable to log on to (or even access the site for that matter) for like a week or so? Anyway, during that week I did alot of research and all, came up with a parts list, and even found a car that here locally that I was going to sell the Si for. Then after thinking about it a little more some simple answers came to me and I just decided to change my mind. Here's just a few of them:
  • If I buy a 240 I'm going to be driving a 10 year old car. Going from a car thats 4 years old and I'm the original owner to a car that is 10 years old and probably has many owners isn't one of the smartest things I could do, especially with me going to college now. Even if it does have a new motor in it.
  • I love my Si. I honestly can't see anyone maintaining my car as well as I do and I want it to go to someone who'll takes care of the thing and not rag it out (or put a boat load of stickers on it).
  • If I'm going to trade in or sell privately my Si with its awesome resale value plus all of my parts, I need to make it count on a car that I REALLY want (like an EVO VIII, WRX STi, or an older ITR) and the 240 isn't a car I'm just itching to drive (no offense to 240 owners out there)

All those things and the fact that I just picked up a B20 short block yesterday for my soon to be powered B20VTEC Si and I guess you can see why I won't be selling Si any time soon for a 240SX with an SR20DET. Call me crazy, stupid, or scared but I think I'll be sticking with my Si for awhile. Thanks for all of the info peeps, and long live SHO. Laters.

yea i couldn't log on to show for like a week either, i think it was down for everyone. I like the idea of the 240sx, but I don't think it's a good idea for you considering you have an SI for the reasons you listed urself. You have a great car right now in my opinion and you knew what went on with it from day one. Plus your engine came with the car so everything was fine when u got it and everything. I agree, stick with the SI.
