UNKNOWN ENGINE PROBLEMS!? NEED HELP ASAP...
I HAVE AN OLD 2000 CIVIC SI AND NEVER CRAPPED ON ME TILL LAST WEEK.
IT JUST DIED ON ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR!! MY CAR WOULD START BUT ONCE I STEP ON THE GAS, THE ENGINE STOPS. AND THEN LATER ON, I FOUND OUT IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE ENGINE IS HOT.
I BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC AND COULDNT FIGURE OUT WHATS WRONG WITH IT. HE SAID IT COULD BE THE "ECU" BECAUSE HE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AND THE DISTRIBUTOR BUT NOTHING CHANGED.
IF ANYONE HAS ANY IDEA OR ALREADY ENCOUNTERED THE SAME PROBLEM, PLS LET ME KNOW. ANY HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED. THANKS...

My first guess would be a clogged fuel filter. enough gas gets thru to idle but not more. after that I would look at the air filter. same idea, only enough air to idle.
another idea- the MAP sensor.

************************************************** *******
i just got the fuel filter/pump replaced and installed the original air filter.
it would start and run for a bit but once the engine is hot enough, engine dies like it ran out of air to breathe. then it will have a hard time starting again. i had to wait for the engine to cool down abit before it can start tagain. Man! that was a long way back home! lol

^^^ That doesn't surprise me. I never understood how it could have been the ECU. Nothing electrical was going on... it was all motor function. The only thing other than what was wrong that I could possibly think of would be your fuel pump going bad... but on those generation civics, they don't tend to go out easily. The fuel pump can either stop all fueling function and not let your car get any fuel whatsoever.... OR it can cause your engine to flood. Either way, you won't get power. Either way, you'll have an issue like the one stated.
Anyway, glad you got it fixed. Take care of your car and it'll take care of you. Keep up routine maintenence and you shouldn't have problems like that.

^ Thank you. I appreciate that. I think more women should know about cars too, but most aren't interested at all. I know more than you think. I've been working on/around cars since I was big enough to see into an engine bay. I love it. It's what I do.

Thats fucking sweet, I wish I could say the same. And I just want more of them to be interested because I talk about cars a lot, and to most women it bores them, I wish they could get excited about such things, because cars kick ass!

How many girls do you know that get excited when they see Rotas? Hahaha. The only girls I ever see hanging out at meets or anything are all of the guys' girlfriends. Who don't know shit about anything practically. I've tried having conversations with several of them from time to time and it's pointless. I feel like I'm dumbing myself down a bit... "Fuel filter...lololol what's that?"...."lol what does a turbo do?"
I can't stand it. Maybe I'm not patient enough.. I dont know. I really have no patience when it comes to prissy girls and their dumb car questions. Most girls don't like to get their hands dirty. I could give a shit less if I get oil all over me and grease and whatever. I've had two guys break up with me because they said I spent too much time with my car and not with them. I need a guy that's into cars as much as me... or I'm staying single.

Yup, what she said. I would be scared to have that mechanic of yours looking at my ride.

Get this, my friend took her blazer to a shop because her brakes were making noise. I told her it was prob. the pads worn out and chewing her rotors.HO
They say they couldnt see anything wrong with it.
I jack it up, take the wheel off, check the pads, and omg, hahaha, they were metal on metal!!!
How does a shop miss that? haha
