My Car Temp...

So how come whenever the heater control knob is turned to "cold" the temp gauge likes to go a bit higher than what im comfortable with..

and then when i turn it to heat, it comes right back down. anyone else notice this? it hasnt always done this...maybe the thermostat is sticking or something

Are you actually turning the heat on when it goes down or just turning the knob with it off? When the heat is on it actually pulls the heat from the enging compartment. It will lower your enging temp a little, lots of times when ppls cars are over heating, they will turn the heat on to try to get some of the hot air out of there.

you're describing a binding temperature cable(it goes to the water valve).

it's a pita to replace/adjust for the first time.

i know it's not linked to the knob, but it can still cause some binding on the air/mix control arm.

also, the knob may be broken. you can replace it. there is a metal sleeve that the knob bites onto. sometimes the knob plastic cracks around it and causes some play. but you said it springs back? check them both out.

jubert is an unknown quantity at this point
better check if the knob is broken.. it happened to me before.. I ended up replacing my honda heater knob with a new one. and be sure that it is installed properly and correctly.. check everything first... good luck
