my new type r conversion

so i just got a used type r dc5 k20 type r engine with chipped ecu, lsd, 6 speed, milled head, valve job, mugen engine mounts and a few micelanious items and a friend told me that he thinks that it might not be a type r engine cause he thinks that thevalve cover is painted, is there a serial number on the engine i could check to see, and where would i check the number out from...like an internet source.

there should be a engine code by the exhaust manifold and it should say k20a2.

i thought that JDM motors won't have that last numeral? like the JDM ITR motor would just be K20A?

that's RSX-S model in US. k20a2

K20a is Type-R motor.

if you are curious, open up the valve and see if there are 3 lobes on each cam shafts.

well i mean the ***** kicks in at like 6000 and rips past 8500 dont know how much past cause im scared tto go past it, but it rips once the ***** is going, i guess ill pull the valve cover ans see whats going on

we can't tell because you said it had a chipped ECU, which probably meaning it is upgraded to go pass the redline for the type-r motor, which happends to be 8400 rpm.

but before you do that, i am assuming it is the typeR motor because you said the vtec kicks in.

where as K20a3's, the vtec kicks in at 2800 rpm, so much for VTEC-E..

yeah i know, just dont really like it when people say jdm type, just want them to say k20a or what ever.

yea im kinda confused as to which k20 it is, k20A3, k20A2, K20a???? but none the less yes im sure it is chipped to go past the 8400, what is a same rpm to go to with it? What r some good cams for a type r?

why you gonna get cams when you dont know what car you have?



the engine code is under the throttle body, so look for it!


but some other things that you can check if it hasnt been changed. the valve cover will not say honda, the si a3 says honda
it will say honda motor co but on the acuras the valve cover is covered in that section by the spark plug cover.the base rsx a3 uses a plastic intake manifold.

you just might have to take it to shop to see what all has been done.

yup, the A3's intake manifolds are black, and configured like this: 00 00

here is the codes..

K20a - JDM DC5 Integra[RSX] Type R motor JDM EP3[Si] Type R motor
K20a2 - USDM DC5 RSX-S motor
K20a3 - USDM EP3 Civic Si motor
K24a3 - USDM CR-V & 7th gen honda Accord motor

now, rumors are that F20C[S2000 motor]'s head gaskit is same as K20a2's, so chances of swapping heads for whoa, god knows what that'll be

ok everything checks out, its a type r! im very happy thank you for the help, im trying to find out how to post pics then i will have some on here.
