Non Factory Stereo Issues from the New Girl on the Block
Hi, I'm new! I figured there were some car savvy guys out there who could help me with this stereo problem. I just bought a 1997 Civic Si from a friend. The car has a non-factory Honda stereo/CD player in it with the Theft Code Device. The problem is, Sang(the friend I bought the car from)never found the manual to code in the stereo. Does anyone know where I can get the information to unlock the Theft Device? Can I go to a dealer or something? Thanks so much boys! I look forward to your answers!

If its not a factory deck you are pretty well screwed.
What kind of deck is it.

since its not factory, and it has the anti-theft, call the company and ask them what you can do to rmedy the problem. they will either say, "there's a reset buttom on the back", "you need to send it to us so we can take the assembly apart and remove the battery to rest the settings", "sorry we can't help you, you may be the person who stole it", "there's nothing you can do without knowing the code, so need to buy a new HU from us".....

Alright, here's what I know.
I checked the stereo and all it says is "Honda Feedback System" on the faceplate. I am thinking that you all are right and that I am just screwed. Apparently, Sang(the guy I bought the car from)took this stereo out of an older model Prelude or Accord he had.
I just hate the thought of having this piece of equipment go to waste because there is some "secret code" I can't figure out. If I can't get the Honda Co. to help, I'll just go buy another stereo.
Thanks for all your help you guys!

Honda will try to charge you more than its worth.
I'd just get a good aftermarket one.
Good luck

if the radio was stock, it would say the code on the back of the glove box, but since it isnt, you will have to go to the honda dealer and probably pay them to figure it out by serial number, probably cost you 85 bux for an hour of labor.
but when you do, have them write the code down for you because every time you un-hook the batt, the code will need to be put back in the deck
or you can just do it the easy way, and buy an aftermarket deck

I had changed my battery in my car and never got the code for my cd player. I went to the local dealership here and it took him 5 minutes to give me my code for free.

All depends on your area. My area is cool as shit to. Most dealers charge you up the ass and make a project of it.

the honda dealer here charges like $50 to give you the code. (my brother just had this happen with his accord) they said they need the serial number off the back of the HU. which if you can get out, i'm sure you can. tell your local dealer the number and they should give the unlock code.

I have 2 dealers in my area. One said to do as you stated. The other wanted my vin and proof of owner ship. It was just a big hassle.
