O2 sensor??

I have a '00 Si and the check engine light just recently came on. I did a scan with an OBD II reader and it says "Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)". I've reset my ECU to make sure it wasn't just a "hic-up" and the check engine light came back about 70 miles later. I'm guessing I need a new O2 sensor, and probably the one in the header (hence the "Bank 1"). So I went to Honda today to get a price and they want $237 for a new "primary 1" O2 sensor:eek . Has anyone ever gotten this code before? What did it take to fix yours? And finally, where is the cheapest place to get a replacement O2 sensor?? I'll pay the $237 if I have to, but that is just so much damn money, and I just got finished paying for school books . Oh well, thanks in advance for your help guys.

Eddie

You might want to check and see, but I think Honda emision parts have a 100,000 miles warranty. check your manual and call the 'stealership'. It doesn't hurt to ask.

Red Si, what was the CEL #? I'm guessing it was #67.

Don't buy an O2 sensor just yet. Give me the CEL number (or DTC) and let me check into it.

BTW, you can get a Bosch universal O2 sensor from most auto part stores for less than $90.

Update:

Well, my car just ending up getting worse and worse, until it finally just died on me....this was all in a matter of about 3 days. So I looked into what SiNergy said and it turned out it was the catalytic coverter. I have 85000 miles, under federal law, the dealership must change a defective catalytic converter if under 90000 miles. So I had it towed to Honda where they agreed to change the catalytic for me and the plugs for free (a big plus for me, cause the price for a new catalytic from Honda is about $1000, and the plugs run almost $20 a piece). Anyways, should be getting it back today, but I just wanted to thank everyone for all the help. I really appreciate it.
