Whenever Im in like 3 or 4th, and I step on the gas, The tach seems to rev normally then drops 200-400 rpms, then goes back up!!! WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT???

Is my clutch slipping? Am I losing compression?

All i got on this car is AEM CAI, GReddy EVO and Clutchmasters Stage 1.

Somebody please let me know whats going on. I hope it aint my tranny.

Do you feel your car slowing at that time? Or is the tach just moving?:

well it kinda slows for a second or two. Then the tach will run normal. But it definitely sounds like loss of power delivery. Its weird though...1st and second dont do that. Its only when im light on the pedal....if I floor it, it doesnt do it at all.

Let me make sure I understand what your saying before I try to diagnose a problem.

When you’re accelerating, but light on the gas in either 3rd or 4th gear, the tach first drops 200-300rmp before it starts to go up?

Does it do it if you’re steady on the gas? Try to be more specific, so we can help you out.

I think you should just take it to the dealer and let them figure it out.

I'll try and be a little more specific. It's not that easy to explain.

This morning, I took her out on the highway. Got her nicely warmed up first though..it was 32 degrees this morning.

Got her out on the highway, went easy on the gears for about
20 minutes. Got some gas and continued on to work.

I put it in 3rd at like 30 mph...and kept my foot on the gas steadily...i didnt punch it. It seemed to accelerate normally for about 2 seconds, then slightly dropped 200-300 rpms, then ramped up normally.

I tried this in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. 2nd pulls ok, 3rd was kinda iffy, 4th was iffy and 5th was ok. I don't think its me boggin the car in between gears.

Could it be that I've been downshifting alot lately? I don't ram my shifter into gear when downshifting. I bring the tach up a 1000 rpms or more between my down shifts (rev matching).

If its the tranny, then Im going to get an R tranny. Id like to get the Honda LSD.

What would cost more???

1) New B16 Tranny w/ Quaife LSD or
2) New B18C5 Tranny

If anybody knows???

I guess i should really let Honda look at it.

ahh i hate this problem... my friend's old EX 5spd did this :-( it scared us all. any time he's steadily accelerating the tach would actually dance around wildly between 2000-4500 (within the range of its respectable rev. point.) but even before this happened, his car would also jerk and wouldn't accelerate smoothly... more like a vrooooom-jerk-jerk-jerk-vrooom-jerk.

yea it was pretty shitty... he had the same mods as you -clutch. we didn't really know what the problem was, couple weeks later he hit a puddle and lost his motor and bought a 99 Si :-\ sorry i couldn't help, i just wanted to make u feel better so u know it wasn't just you. we thought it was a problem with his ECU and maybe concidered getting a new upgraded chip? i'm not sure, i'll ask him more questions about it today and post his explanation

I'm no expert but if you are able to engage the gears and that they don't slip while engaged then it wouldn't be the tranny. Plus you said it doesn't stalls or jerks. Could be "fuel" related...not sure... just to be sure though go to a tranny specialist and ask them.

If you ask me, I think it sounds like a distributor problem.

Like a bad ignitor or something.

It could be couple things.
1. Your losing back pressure or not enough, make sure your cat is not cloged or missed up - plus check the piping on your exhaust.
2. eletrical, check your plugs, wire, dist cap, and coil.
3. air flow, check your filter and connectiong to intake.

other than that tranny is gone.

I think it might be the clutch. Reason being is cause this has happened to me b4. Right b4 my stock clutch went, it was experiencing the same symptoms. After it was replaced, it was like new again.

My friend also drove it during lunch and he said that it felt somewhat worn down when trying to get into gear. He says he
feels like he has to push the pedal to the floor before engaging the gear. I drive it everyday, so i cant really tell.

Thanks for the help everyone.
