im new on here but i have a question. I am looking at buying another civic and i have a question about the quarter mile time. Its a 90 civic hatch with a b18b1, msd ignition, port and polished head, ctr pistons, 3 in cat back, and a skunk 2 short shifter. He says it ran a 14.2 Does that seem legit?
MSD is good stuff, but its WAY overkill for nearly all N/A motors. Their products are for boosted/nitrous applications. Where making a good spark is more difficult.
Unless your making a disgusting change in the power your car is making you don't need a aftermarket ignition system. Just make sure your stock wires are within their tolerances and Dist is in good shape.
Granted I have MSD wires on my accord, but I got them cheap plus my stock wires were getting really bad. I'm also planning on adding a turbo in the near future. The woman wants to go to Disney, which means turbo time may get delayed again. :/

like i said msd is useless on honda builds under 400whp. the stock ignition and fuel rail have been proven to support that power level. msd is really good on setups like old carb'd v8's etc. but the honda ignition is phenomenal

WVU already said yes, it should. The MSD isn't needed, but if its already included in a vehicle it doesn't matter. Theres no point in trying to go back to the stock ignition system unless you want to sell the msd, that is if the stock ignition parts come with the vehicle.
Its an upgrade, but the upgrade was not needed. It would be like adding a 4 gauge power wire to your factory stereo system. completely over the top, thats what we're saying.

it seems resonable but it would have to be a hell of a driver to get that with a non vtec b18 im only getting 13.7 outta my slightly buil B18C5 with LSD but it depends on the driver and weight is a factor sounds like a cool car thought i wouldn't hesitate to buy it as for the MSD i would just leave it as is if its already on the car no harm

b-series hp only looks good on paper. it all comes down to the driver. b18c5's make 25 more hp than b18c1's and barely run any faster than than them.
