ok, what exactly is the AEM filter? i have the AEM filter, but i was wondering if it is a K&N filter or something else? im planning on cleaning the filter, so can i use the K&N recharger kit on the AEM filter?
also, how often do you guys clean yours out? i've heard different intervals. does it just depend on where you live?
k&n's website said this:
The general rule of thumb is that the filter needs to be cleaned when the dirt build up gets as thick as the wire mesh. The usual interval is 30,000 - 50,000 miles depending on driving conditions. We recommend that you check your filter about once a year in normal usage.

AEM no longer uses K&N filters!!! The newer ones are black, and say "AEM" on them, instead of "K&N". As far as cleaning either one, Just go with what K&N tells you to do, because they are basically the same filter.

true... aem wanted to have a special account with k&n, and k&n wouldn't do it... they did that to airaid too (they make intakes for trucks, used to have k&n filters, now their own)
they are made by a different company, but they are the same setup and i would use the k&n cleaner kit and the same mileage rules...
