I sell honda's and currently own a 00 fbp si with a cia and raced an 02 that we got in a couple weeks ago. Unfortunatly we were not able to race off the line but it was a rolling start from around 5mph. the guy in the 02 Si said go so he got the jump on me by almost a car i 1st gear. mid 2nd is where I started pulling up to him, and in 3rd is where I steadily pulled away from him.
The 20 extra ft/lbs of torque is evident in first and second gear but there after the car doesn't really feel like it has any power. I think even off the line he may have jumped me because of the extra torque but I don't think it would have been a big of a jump as almost a full car.
In my opinion I think the 99-00 Si's are better cars as far as
acceleration and handling goes. The 02 Si has too much body roll
in the twisties and no power past 2nd gear. Though I would love to have the factory recaro seats in it and the new 3 spoke steering wheel. As for the rest of the car i preffer my Si over the new one. Please put in your input and thoughts about the 02 Si
if you have encounterd one...
Mods: No engine mods YET, just a Sparco X-Speed shift knob.
2002 si
I haven't raced one yet, but they're so ugly I wouldn't buy one even if it was a lot faster. I've got nothing but love for Honda engineering, but sometimes their new body styles are a little over the edge.
Sure it may get a little faster once broken in, but you really need to drive one and I'm sure you will agree that it is still much slower.
Seriously anything above 2nd gear in that car is just utterly unexhilarating. Plus you don't hear that signature DOHC honda sound when the VTEC engages. It is just a dull car after 2nd. It's problem goes beyond just the break in period.. It is still a slower car. Except for first and second gear where it is the only part where they may be a race...
if i had to choose between an 00 si with i/h/e and aftermarket wheels/tires and an 02 si with the same, id definately pick the 02. The only thing i see wrong with the new one is the high price tag and the shitty wheel/tire combo

Your crazy obviousley you have not driven the 02 Si. The handling of the 99-00 is far superior to the 02. The 99-00 has the double wishbone up front and the 02 has Mcphearson strut wich is a more compact disign , but inferior when it comes to handling. Plus the 02 has way too much body role. I prefer the dumb VTEC of the 99-00 over the VTEC-I...
imo the 99-00 si has body roll and handles poorly with stock wheels/tires and ride height. Yes i test drove th 02 si and the 02 rsx-s as well. I like the rsx best out of all 3, followed by the 02 si.

Sorry bro stock vs stock the 99-00 si is way better than the 02 as far as handling goes. Damn we just keep butting heads all night don't we. NOTHING PERSONAL BRO JUST CARS...

what mods does your SI have?
no offense, but the 2002 si should have eaten you for lunch after 2nd gear.
the 2002 si has great handling dynamics, definitely better than the 99-2000, but it's crippled by some piss poor tires - the same tires that come on a honda insight if that means anything to you.
but anyhow, what mods do you have, anything else besides the CAI, tires/wheels maybe??

Have you even driven the new Si?? Probably not if you think it should take me in 3rd. That is the gear that I just walk away in. I work with 2 other guys that own Si's one heavily mod'd and one bone stock not even springs and they both feel the loss of power after 2nd. Also don't forget the 02 Si is heavier. Overall I think that I am one of the few people that actually like the damn car. I even thought about getting one til I drove it and was disapointed.
on my car I have AEM cai, coilovers, and a short throw shifter. Oh yeah I probably weigh just as much as the 02 when you take into consideration my system....

i've driven it, pretty hard as well i might add. i'm most likely going to buy one (my last car was a FBP 2000 si).
by the numbers, the 2000 and 2002 si are pretty evenly matched for a 5-60 start. the 2000 si is listed at 8.3s by car and driver, and the 2002 si is listed at 8.5s by car and driver. So that's pretty much a dead even match that comes down to the driver.
The reason why I say the 2002 should eat you for lunch in 3rd gear is b/c of the way it's geared. the biggest rpm drop occurs on the 1-2 upshift, so in effect, second gear becomes the weakest gear. the 2-3 upshift has a smaller rpm drop and the 2002 si starts picking up steam again, on through 4th and 5th. once you hit 4th & 5th gear, the 2002 si will start pulling away. so I guess what I should have said is that on a 3rd gear start the 2002 si should eat you for lunch, but from a 5mph start, you would have caught him in 2nd gear, and then things stay more or less even through 3rd with you still kind of pulling, then he starts to pull again once you hit 4th and then 5th.
when I test drove the 2002 si, i noticed much stronger pull to 100 than in my 2000 si.
anyhow, i don't question that you beat him, but you should be wary b/c they are quite capable once you get going in 3rd gear.
also, i would expect faster performance once a proper breakin has happened. Honestly, my 2000 si kept getting faster up until about 30k miles when it kind of plateaued. honda gearboxes take a long time to loosen up.

I hate it when someone bashes a car cause 1)They really like it but can't admit to it or 2)They say they hate it then they come up with something like "Oh, it's growing on me, I really like it!". Give the 02 another year or two and it'll be a contender.
