Replacing faulty Valve train components?

Okay, I just realized the other day that there is a large amount of smoke coming out of my crank case breather (Little nipple winger on back pass. side of head cover). Now Im pretty sure with out even doing a blow by test I most likly have bad valve seals and/or guids, posibly bad rings. I have a 99 Si with a little over 50,000 on it, and I used to use a 70 shot of Nitrious at the track.
I want to replace the seals and guids myself (affter doing a blow by test to make sure thats the problem), because I don't have a whole lotta money right now and Southern Auto charges around $350 to rebuild a head. I would just like to know if any one has done this before and could give me some pointers on the best way to do it so I don't mess up my head. Im pretty sure I can just drain the oil and replace the seals and guids. Thanks for any help.

I haven't done any head work myself, but if you are going to attempt it I would recommend you get the Helm service manual. They are expensive ($69.00) but well worth the money.

Item number 61S0307 is the one you need. http://www.helminc.com/helm/homepage.asp?r=

I had a Haynes manual, it was only about $10-20. It has a very comprehensive look into every thing to do with anything wrong with the motor. I can can find it, I'll try and look in there. I just wanted to hear fro people that have sone it, because there is only so much a book can tell you.

While you're in there, consider getting someone knowledgeable to port the head and maybe do stiffer valve springs and stainless valves if you want to kill 3 or 4 birds with one stone...

See I would love to do that, but I don't have that kind of money right now. My friend thinks it might be my rings and not my valve seals, which I could see. So today we are going to a compresion test and blow by test. This way we can find out exactly what it is. If its the rings I'm going to drop a LS block with the pistons out of my B16A in my car and make it a LS/Vtec motor. So I'm realy hoping its the rings.

P.S. The block would only be about $100, rings $50, and head gasket $35. Which would save me money, and make me faster.
