hi guys,
well, this may not seem like a big deal to anyone, but
i was on my way to work, feeling under the weather and it wasn't raining or anything, but as i was changing lanes to get to my
left :
i hear a loud- BINK!!! on my windshield and YEP,
a fuckin' rock hit Baby.
i told my dad, all depressed, and he asked me if i had got the plate number of the semi?
i said no, i wasn't even near a fuckin truck, but still managed to catch a bad one.
it's not a big gash or anything, but it is still RIGHT THERE and it is an eyesore, and i'm not getting it changed anytime soon, but
i was just wondering how much it would be to get a new windshield for my 00 Si.
this happened last monday and a few days later i was lookin at it, and tell me HOW 1 =became a bunch of tiny knicks?
I had the same thing happen to my SI,it was on the free way and smack, there it was eye level on the driverside, i was so pissed.I still have not replaced mine, but yes it bugs me because i have to look at it every day. I did hear somthing about a chip repair system where they heat the glass and melt a piece of new glass and fill the small crack or chip, you might want to look into this.good luck
Check with your insurance company about free windshield replacement, I have it and have replaced out my windshield a couple times now. You may have to pay a little bit more but its worth it. I currently have 3 rock chips in my windshield now but I think I will wait till the winter/snow months pass before getting it replaced.

If you don't have insurance coverage for glass. Some Glass places have different pricing let them know you are paying, sometimes they even like cash the best. My 92's windshield cost me $160.00 three years ago. CASH.
You can get things, that fill in the crack, my dad did that to his car, that shit worked hella good, it's not going to help if you have a huge spyder web crack, but on small cracks it hella helped, u almost notice nothing.
the exact same thing happened to me last summer, and i felt the same way u do. i was all like considering getting an entire new windshield cause of this tiny crack right in the middle, half the size of your pinky nail. then time passed and i realized what a waste of money it would have been if i replaced the windshield. think about how many more times thats going to happen. :-\ what u (and i actually) need to do is get the crack filled so it doesn't get any bigger and spread, i can already tell mine grew a little since then... especially if u get a lot of snow and ice in your area. it costs like $30 to fill little cracks like that, thats your best bet. then maybe like after it happens a lot more over the next 5 years, u can consider getting a new windshield THEN and fix all those problems.
thanks for all of your advice guys!
i thought maybe i was over-reacting or if this was a problem
for other people... apparently i am not the only one!
it is a freakin' eyesore and you do not know how mad/sad i was that day. how many times i replayed the situation in my head
and thought- if i had just left the house a second earlier,
if i hadn't changed lanes, etc etc
only pissed me off coz i go out of my way to make sure i don't hit rocks. and if it is totally unavoidable, i will play my stereo hella loud so that i don't have to at least HEAR the rocks hit.
i don't know, go ahead and call me a loser :
neways, thanks for all the info about the chip repair system thing.
i didn't know i could get the thing filled... and all this technology with melting the glass n shit... damm i'm so not-knowin' *laffs*
so is it true that these chips GROW?!?!?
i will totally look into these options... i've got full coverage, so i will check about the glass...
but i don't think i am gonna change it until maybe the summer or later... i've got 3 major ones and a lot of small ones...
i don't know what the hell happened...... :0(
go to your local junkyard. they charge a little over $100 for the windshield and installation. i've had it done twice, and no complaints. the thing about insurance, depending on your coverage, can increase your rates.

where in northern cali are you......... I know a person that installs winshileds for a hella reasonable price..... He also gots other locations in cali and other states....... Ive had multiple winshilds installed for cheap. The cars I had them replaced on... BTW I buy and sell wrecked cars so it expains the amount of winshileds I replaced
i was driving on the interstate last summer and part of a re-tread off of an 18 wheeler smashed my entire windshield. GLASS EVERYWHERE. scared the hell out of me. me and two of my friends were going to Pennsylvania for a car show. our plans got canceled quickly. i couldn't get the tag #. hell i could hardly see to get back home.
if you can live with the crack being on your windshield, you can at least do something to keep it from spreading. There are resin kits available at the local auto parts shops i.e. pep boys, autozone, etc... that fill in the crater caused by the rock ding and stops the spread of the crack. I had my windshield dinged by a rock on my old civic 2 years ago, and the crack hasn't spread a single millimeter since i applied the kit. it's around 8 bucks, a good alternative from doing costly windshield replacement...
Living in a city with crazy winters, I know how you feel :, if the ding isn't that bad, you can go to a local shop and they can fix it up for you with some compressor thingy.. I've had other things flown at me too, a grill, a tire rolling off of a jeep, styrofoam, but mostly rocks..
anyways, i think last time I got my windshield done it costed 400 bucks CDN..
