when i was window shopping for rims at discount tires, the owner of the shop advised me that rotas are trash, they are only replicas of the real deal and that they are made of low grade materials that will bend easily. he totally refuses to stock them...any truth to what he is saying?

one of my friends of Honda Tuning Shop here in Page Ranking said is true... they are made of shitty materials and they will crack or bend in a pothole.....

Rota is well respected in the Impreza/WRX community. They are one of only a few manufactures to make wheels in the proper offset for Subaru cars. I haven't heard of anybody having problems with their wheels
BTW...I'm planning on getting some steel gray Rota SDRs for the rex.

I honestly don't know what to say about these rims? I mean they have been out for a while... and they have also been mass produced... therefore, hint, the cheap pricing!
I personally have not had any experience with them, but I have seen them once. They were fitted on a Integra. They look nice, and light (for the price).
Material wise, I would say, it's good. Otherwise, rota would not have even produced these rims. Unless they want kick themselves in the ass.... We'd never know until we actually have someone who'd tried them out!
Peace

i would take them over spoon for daily driving BECAUSE of the fact that rotas are made out of aluminum (w/ the ISO-9001 cert. so the guy at your shop was just trying to sell you something more expensive) vs. the spoon rims that are made out of magnesium, magnesium cracks easily and i know you would not like that
aboput the spoon rims... yuor pay for more than the name, spoon is very respectable and thats why i made this post, i want to know if rota can even come close, spoon wheels are made form magnesium-titanium alloy, the same metal that the ussr used for tanks back in the cold war <- no shit, and the metal is a natural black which is caused from the 10,000 degree forging process used to bond the metal. so if i scraoed a curb with these, you would see black
Mods: ported/polished head (port matched and polished intake manifold), dc header, custom intake, milled head 30 thousandths, custom titanium muffler
hmm... so if you set ANY aftermarket, and most stock wheels on fire... they'd burn. they're almost all alum wheels now...
the spoon rims are not that bad, and they are made in sizes that would make it difficult to smash one in a pothole, b/c you don't need superskinny tires on em.
the rotas are pretty light, especially for their weight, and inexpensive. i would go that route...
think about it... 2k for just wheels from spoon... you could spend 1/4 to 1/2 that for just rims, and spend the rest on power parts to make up for the slightly extra wt.

rotas are pretty good for their price....they looks good, cheap, and pretty light....spoons are super light weight but they cost a lot more....i was wondering, if the spoons are magnesium, wouldn't they catch on fire??? i remember my science teacher telling me that the older cars had magnesium wheels and they were catching on fire cause they were heating up or something...
I'm struggling with the same question for my 95 Si, I decided to go with Slipstreams because they are only 3lbs heavier in a 15", and for the $1500 I save I could do better towards performance.
