the safest way to downshift on b16a2(freeways)..?
thank you for spending time to read my topic ...
okee i m somehow still not use to b16a...
so here is the question...
when you are going 70mph on 5th, i want to down shift for Speed...
do you guys go down to 4th or 3rd..?
my old h22 didn have any problem going 3rd from 70mph,
however, when i try to go 3rd, the little guy(b16a) makes unhealthy scream.
some b16a owners say, it's normal for b16 to scream like that BC of small size..
i have only down shifted to 3rd twice, i m pretty sure b16a can take it but i just don wanna stress the engine...
so which gear should i down shift to at speed of 70mph(no spray situation) ..?
i have stock b16a2 engine w/most boltons n laughing gas
and also...
i need tranny oil change..
where can i buy tranny fluid for ys80..?
autozone n kregen do not carry the oil for honda
how much oil do i need for ys80.?
thank you very much....

I have a d16y8 and when I downshift from 4th to 2nd at 40mph it does the same thing, there is nothing wrong with that, honda engines can take almost anything

Yes you can down shift into 3rd going 70. But make sure to try and rev match the down shift. It will save your clutch and syncros.

yep.. i always give the throttle a "blip" and release the clutch accordingly. it takes that certian "feel", but after a couple of practice tries, you should get it.

you have to rev match. if you are going 70 mph at 3000 rpm in 5th, and you want to downshift to 4th, you will be up around 4000-4200 rpm. just shifting like that without revmatching puts a strain on the synchros and clutch, so to downshift, give the throttle a little press to where you think that the rpm of the engine would be at, shift, and slowly release the clutch. it takes a little practice, but isnt all that hard to get.

When you down shift, while the clutch is depressed, you give it a little throttle to get the rpm's up to match where they will land after the shift. For instance downshifting into 3rd@70 in a b16 will land(if I remember correctly) around 6500 rpm's. So try and gey your revs up to 6500 before you let go of the clutch.
