Shifting
hopefully i posted in the right part of the forume...
but i have an auto civic and i manually shift it pretty much everywhere i go cause it likes to slip alot...i know i need to get a new one but i was just wanting to know if manually shifting an automatic is damaging to the transmission or does it not have any effect at all on it? (just to know for the future)
hopefully someone can answer my quest. thanks for the help.

the main killer of auto transmissions is heat. shifting an automatic, manually, some of the time will probably not damage it, but i wouldn't recommend racing around town in 2 Low. Shifting it all the time, will most definitely damage it. the lower gears are there to aid traction in inclimate weather, not to improve your launches. Honda Automatic tranny's weren't built for racing, they were built to shift smoothly and be economical (as much as an auto can be anyway)
now this does not apply to all transmissions, just Honda and some of the other imports. if you had a 66 Chevelle SS, for example, you can manually shift that biatch all day, every day. those were built to take that kind of abuse....

That's my opinion as well...the trannys weren't designed to be shifted on the fly every time you need an up shift

i dont think it is bad, i know alot of people who do that and have never had any problems
??
it is obviously a bad thing to manually shift the auto or doin the neutral drop cuz it'll wear ur tranny. i dont think ur answer help anything at all.

when had my 95 corolla...i used to drive home in 2nd instead of drive and i live 22 miles away from work. i hated that car, thats why....but the damn thing never broke :bh ...it was shift really hard by the time i got close to home....but never actually bit the dust. i personally wouldn't shift the auto manually, and since you manually shift does it keep it from slipping? have you tried changing the tranny oil?

yea my next step is to change the oil i have it ready, just my bf hasnt had time to do it yet cause our work schedules clash alot and i dont know how to do it on my own. but im hoping that once it gets changed that will help it but he and alot of other ppl that have heard it say it may not help at all. so im just hoping it will.
as far as slipping goes no it still slips if i manually shift it just not as bad as if i were to leave it in drive and go from there it would slip way more often.
