Was the Si better in previous years? Maybe buying one.
I am looking into a newer car, stuck between a subie wrx and a civic si but thats another story. I test drove an 08' Si and it seemed to have less smooth shifting around 3rd gear, not the car but the shifter seemed like I had to jam it in to gear. I have heard that they are known to have a sticky third gear which seemed to be the case with the one I test drove. I don't think I am going for an 08' either way, so if I were to look for a used Si is there a better year to look for? I don't want anything too old, I'm coming from 95 civic as it is so something newer then 00' would be nice. I've seen a few 06's around me, did they have the same problems as the 08's? Gotta find a nice one otherwise Subie turbo is gonna get the best of me .Thanks

Now that I know about this being a real problem:
Honda TSB 08-020 April 12, 2008 (3RD GEAR) - 8th Generation Honda Civic Forum
I have another question, since the 06' follows suit in having the same problems, did they fix it even if the warranty was out or were they only responsible for crappy 3rd gears on new vehicles? If I go out and buy an 06' now and then have to fork out cash right away to have the gears replaced then why would I even bother with looking into the vehicle? Basically I wouldn't unless the seller compensated for the cost of the new synchros.
I guess if I was going brand new, I could demand the dealer fix the problem but if not then whats the cost of getting this done?

Seems I get no replys for this so just delete the thread, or let it run through. If I get one I will worry about it.

Get a brand new one. I got an 08, it's a pretty sweet ride. No third gear trouble yet for me. If you get one and have the problem, they should fix it for free.

Also going backwards to a b-series civic is not going to rule out transmission troubles. D and B series honda transmissions are notorious for going through the syncros quickly./

Thinking 06ish if I stay in the Civic family. But considering all the risks I could be taking if I do, maybe a turbo WRX is more up my alley and not to mention would have more power then the SI....

this is the best year for the civic considering it's an actual integra now. not just an underpowered same chassis civic. that drive by wire is gay though

DBW is annoying. I don't know if something's wrong with my car or if it's normal , but when I have the clutch in and try to blip the throttle, sometimes it's slow to respond. If I let out on the clutch it's all good.

IMO, the new onces are really nice, but if it were up to me i like the 99-00 si's the best and I would get one of those. But that being said, those care are already at the youngest 8 years old.
I know Honda will fix the 3rd gear issue for you on the new ones, and if your worried about that, idk if the scoobie is for you. WRX's have notoriously fragile trannys. I've seen 2 blow out on my freinds in the 3 years he had it, then he got so pissed he sold it. Granted he drove the car pretty hard, but part of the reason you want an si is to be able to drive it hard.
The scoobie is great but they also have there problems too. Hondas and toyotas tend to be more robust and reliable just my opinion.

YOU SHOULD GET A 00 SI CUZ YOU CAN STILL PUT A TURBO ON IT AND GET UP TO 270 HORSEPOWER. AND THEY GOT THE DOUBLE WISHBONE SUSPENSION SO IT HANDLES BETTER. IT SEEMS LIKE THEY PUT CHEAPER PARTS ON THE NEW CIVICS. THEY LOOK BETTER TOO. MAYBE IF YOU GET THE STOCK GROUND EFFECTS KIT WITH THE DEAL THEN IT LOOKS BETTER. I SAY GO WITH THE 00 SI!
