Slick stock or Short shift

yeah um... i love the slickness and smoothness of the stcok shifter, but when i race with it, its like the rod is too long and the thorw isnt short enough for my clutch release.... every short shifter ive come across requires some real strength to put it in gear, but its fast and accurate, but dammit i love the slick ass stock!!! arghhh what do you guys suggest

My dc short shifter is pretty slick. What you should do if you get one, is put some grease on the ball of the stick that sits in the..ahhh....swivelly part??!!....the it should be real smooth. I did that to mine and it works just fine. also be sure that the linkage doesn't hit yout heat sheild for the exhaust. that will make it shift like crap too.

Short shifters don't make it any less slick.

It just takes a bit more effort, and everything is firmer. IMO, it's slicker, more solid now than when it was stock.

Every time I drive my girlfriends Acura the stick feels like a big feather encased in foam rubber.

My short shifter feels very nice i am very pleased with it and have not looked back to the old days with the longer shift throws... You will love the tight feeling of it...

I love my short shifter but as you guys mentioned, everything is stiffer and sometimes this causes some noise of metal hitting metal especially when the car goes over a bump. This usually happens in 3rd and 5th gear. I have a bushing kit in it as well and it shifts stiff!

This has nothing to do with it being stiffer.

The way a short shifter works is by being shorter above the pivot point, and a little longer below the pivot point.

Sometimes, the bottom of the shifter will hit the exhaust or the heat shield under the car, and it usually happens in third and fifth, because when you push the shifter forwards, the bottom of the shifter is actually moving backwards, closwer to a spot where the exhaust curves under a heat shield.

Some minor metal bending underneath the car will usually eliminate this problem. Easiest way to do it is to put the car in fifth, and get underneath the car and look at what it hits.

Why aren't short shifters made so they don't hit the bottom? I mean they can make it like the stock one but shorter.
