Question Tech info on Civic Si EH3 gearbox

Ciao all,

i'm an italian honda fan (www.hondaclub.it ).
I'm writing for a friend of mine, he has problems on his gearbox (his car is the Civic Si EH3, canadian version, d16z6 engine) he wants to know if he can swap his gerbox with another one (hopefully with different gear ratios).
B16 series gearbox should not be compatible, anyone could help us ?

Which models have a compatible gearbox ?

Thanks in advance!

Before I start out, I'd like to know, what sort of problems he is having with his stock transmission?

nothing bad at all... he bought an used civic and he just "finished" the clutch (damn i don't know how to tell this in good english)
He almost can't drive anymore because every gear makes his clutch to slip.... so he was interested in changing the whole gearbox because gear ratios "sucks"... he'd like some shorter ones (his civic goes over 130miles/h at about 5300-5500rpm)

thanks

At 5400RPM in 5th, he should be only going around 115mph - are you sure he has the original transmission? That sounds like gearing from a DX tranny . . .

maybe he meant 130km/h (90mph)? cause over 130mph in a canadian Si is kinda fast...

130km/h is around 81mph. In 5th gear at 81 mph with the stock P20/B tranny, he should be at 3800RPM . . . so no, that wouldn't be right - it has to be in mph. I have a feeling that the car has a DX tranny in it.

130mph is perfectly feasible in that car. I had my EJ1 up to around 125mph and it was still at 6000RPM, with 1200RPM left to go. He has an EH3, which has the same engine but is lighter by 220lbs.

i was talking about mph.

i have proof:

Ok, pic is not the best quality. This was on a German Highway (no speed limit), you can see it's mph, because we have kmh and they go up to 220-230 before going aout of scale.

Gearbox SHOULD be original , because no one ever changed it (as far as we know).

But... which gearboxes are compatible with this civic ?

The pic is proof - that is definitely not the stock P20/B transmission.

Take a look at the numbers on the transmission housing just above the filler plug. I have a hunch it will probably say "P20/Axxx," which is the code for DX, CX, and VX trannies.
