i have a B16A and i was curious with the new StandAlone system i recently bought, if i would make a differance to advance or retard the timing of the spark in the cylinder.
the motor is a '92 B16A from an SiR, and i was curious with the lift and stroke and rotation of the crank...what would be the best place for me to set me ignition spark... i know that my wording is confusing, but for the knowledgable people pn here i'm sure they'll understand what i'm asking.
Does it help to advance or retard the timing, i know if you do it too much you can hurt the motor and cause the spark to happen in the wrong place and eventually destroy the valves and such, but if you get it in the right spot at the right time, you can create pretty useful power.
what are your thoughts on all of this and does it make sense to do this?
Mods: CDA intake. 20psi. 3" full exhaust. Bailey's dv.
jesus christ, teh noob thread! When he said spark he specified ignition timing. If your motor is pretty much stock then just set your ignition timing to 16 degrees and call it good.

yes you will destroy something, most likely your motor.

thats bordering on diesel compression way too high compression for a gas engine unless your running like jet fuel or something
You can run that high of compression with race gas..and make a ton of power. But..that won't be ANYTHING near being able to run on pump gas. shoot for like 12:1 or something..you can at least run off pump gas with the timing retarded alittle on the street with that. Unless you plan on driving around on race gas all the time, or if its a full race car I wouldn't run that high of c/r.
