no, that is not possible. ngk plugs are arguably the best plugs for our cars, preferably the ix iridiums.

umm..wtf?
B16a's are designed to run on high octain fuel..and plugs has nothing to do with engine blowing up.
i call bull shit on the shop guy's explanation.
what the fuck blew up anyways? chunk of engine block?

I'd run from that shop as fast as possible. They obviously have no idea what they are doing.

If he was running like race gas on his stock engine then yes it is possible but 93 octane would not cause that

some race fuel contains lead which isn't good for our unleaded motors. leaded fuel was good back in the day because of valve seat technology. The lead in the fuel would fill in imperfections in the valve seat and help reduce wear. Not really an issue in modern engines.
Also, the guy had no business running race fuel in a b16 unless it was properly built/tuned. So I'm wondering if this guy has a crappy tune and had some detonation that lead to engine damage.
As for high octane + plugs causing damage. Highly unlikely. However I think there is a *LOT* that is not being said about what this guy has done to his motor and how he treats it.
