My daughter has a 2002 Civic Si Hatchback with 102,000 km. (60K miles) using conventional 5-20 oil. She currently uses a litre of oil every 300-400 kilometres (180-240 miles). The dealer has told her it is common for VTEC's to use 1 litre per 1500 kilometres. They did a diagnostic check on the vehicle and everything checks out fine.
She doesn't have a light foot but this should not be a substantial reason for higher consumption.

My 94 accord used significantly more oil using Mobil1 clean 5000 vs Castrol GTX dino oil, same weight. 5w30. In about 3000 miles, it consumed 2 quarts of the clean 5000 stuff! When I ran the Castrol, it never required me to add oil, even after 5000 miles between changes. It did that up till I traded it in at 179,000 miles. I would try some different oil. I Don't have a clue about any other types of oil other that the Castrol, Valvoline, and that "clean 5000" crap. as always, YMMV...
10-30 weight oil doesn't seem to make any difference. Honda recommends 5-20 but there is no mention of using synthetic and I would have a concern at starting using this at 60,000 miles.

Oh, yea Iv heard that 5w30 is fine in those, despite what it says on the oil cap, and from what I understand the 5w20 stuff has to do with a small increase in MPG, and less emissions. I have the same 02 Civic Si, and mines getting 5w30...

If you talking about Mobile 1 synthetic oil, It isnt crap read the new import tuner. You'll gain 2.2 hp using fully synthetic

You cant always believe what you read. Modified tested the Pulstar plugs and showed 8 hp gain, realistically you might see a 2-3 hp gain under normal conditions... Back on topic. When are you checking the oil? Is it in the morning before any driving or after having driven it. That will make a large difference in the amount that shows up on the dipstick. Have you seen any oil/dirt/sludge buildup around the valve cover or for a HG leak. Your oil pan seals may be fucked up and causing oil to drip out. Also, if there is no drain plug gasket you could be losing oil there. Do you pay someone to change your oil or do you do it yourself. If you pay someone, chances are the plug is stripped....they do that all the time.
Back to the dealer. What kind of test did they do to allow it to check out?? Did they show you the results to prove they did those tests. The thinner recommended oil contributes to higher fuel efficiency since the oil is thinner and causes less restriction. You could try a can of engine restore to help restore compression and seal all of the gasketed parts of the motor.
You could check to see if white smoke comes out when the car is revved. If that is the case then yes you are passing oil and it is burning. There are many ways to see, but you will have to narrow it down since you have the car. Update when you determine
my first thought was bad rings Vtec engines burn oil but that's an excessive amount. is there any oil in the engine bay, white smoke, smell? also look at your coolant for any oil as well and rough driving doesn't help
