tech wrench VTEC dropout

hey i have a delsol (yes i know its the civic forum ) with a B16A3 in it, and occasionally VTEC will not engage and if it does, it rapidly disengages and re-engages, to the point the engine sounds like a machine gun. I know there are a load of sensors that could cause this, but i have no SES light and otherwise the car runs fine...any ideas??

oil is the culprit
but it could be the pin that the oil pressure forces to engage the second cam followers.
your "vtec pin" may be broken or bent
