Well since the redline is 1000rpms lower I guess VTEC would engage 1000rpms lower. So around 4600-5000 rpms. If you want the VTEC stickers on your car order them from here www.hondaautomotiveparts.com and put them on yourself. The dealer will charge you an arm an a leg for the stickers and to put them on. This is something that you can do yourself unless you're retarded, no offense. Peesh

i'm dead serious man. a lot of civic guys keep asking when the vtec kicks in on the sohc and of course a war always starts because somehow everyone has a different vtec starting point.
and BDC's (BLACKDEUCECOUPE) was replying to someone's post about that and he stated that the vtec kicks in as soon as you start you motor, but he mentioned that he didnt wanna go into details about that. i tried to get that post but i couldnt.
i hope that if he reads this he will shed some more light on the subject.

well duh it comes on when you start the motor. VTEC isnt the name of the second cam! VTEC is on always, just at 5000rpm the VTEC sytem tells the engine to go to the next cam, thats all BDC means.

VTEC is both mechanical and program. As for the Vtec with mechanics its no engaged just ready to be engaged as for the program its not used until a certain RPM point so in reality its ready to be engaged as most know and not on when the car is running

VTEC means veriable timing and lift...blah blah blah, not the second cam. Like i said, VTEC is a system, not just a larger cam. If VTEC "wasnt on" when you first start your car, what, would you no no cam or somthing I agree with what BDC said, VTEC is always on, the computer decides which cam is appropriate based on RPM, thats all

In the original post he asked where he could get DOHC VTEC stickers and powerofdreams8 said "forget www.hondaautomotive.com go here...

www.vinylmayhem.com

they are the bomb diggity.. "

But i guess he likes to pay $25 for replica stickers when you can get the originals for $7

Whatever!!!!!!

yes, "vtec is always on", but when people ask "when does vtec kick in" everybody knows they mean "when does the second lobe engage" so who cares. a majority of the people on here probably dont even know how the engine works, so they're not going to know to ask about the the lobes (duh, what's a cam?). you knew what he meant, and so did everybody else.
