Sorry. What i was asking was with the cel light on (its the 02 sensor) would the vtec still engage, or is there a fail-safe type system that cuts it.

In that case your vtec should still engage. Why do you ask? Just curious.

I'm asking cause i can't hear it lol. Its not my car and i did the swap, he needs an o2 sensor and i wanted to know if vtec will still work in the meantime. thanks for the help.

You are really not going to "hear vtec" on the d16y8. Maybe with an intake, but even then it's really hard to hear. It's not like the crossover on the b/k series motors.
