i have about 1200 to spend on a system. i am looking at either 2 idq 12"s, or 1 idmax 12. that will proally take 400-600 dollars from sounddomain. i am not very knowledgable about amps and such, so i need some help on which amp to get. i believe i need a mono amp. which amps will provide decent power to either of these setups, keeping it under 5-4 bills? also, do i need v4 or v2?

Ok...here's how it goes...if you have 600W or less total..do the IDQ's. With more than 600W, I would go for the IDMAX.
Now, I personally hate class D amps...don't ask me why, I don't want to start a war, I just do. Now the best way to spend your money, hands down is to go and get a JBL BP1200.1, and get either a D2 or D4 max. Those subs will wire to either a 1 or 2 ohm mono load (respectively) and you will get 1200W from the JBL. Put that in a 1.5-1.6 ft^3 sealed box, and you are set. For about $600 you will have yourself a killer combo.
Now there are other class D's out there that work very well. There are offerings from DEI, Crossfire, RF, Memphis, and many more to look at. I really like the Directied 1100. I would also recommend the Arc Audio 1500 - it a class T design - it's definitely more expensive than the other's listed, but is a great amp.
Now if the 1000 is for just bass, and not for the rest of your system, and you have an electrical system that can handle it, you may want to look class A/B. IF you could find an old Orion HCCA, you would be set as well. I personally chose an Arc Audio 2500 for my D2 IDMAX. It make 1050W @ 4 ohm mono. But the max current draw is 135A!!!!
Any 6-800W amp would be great for the IDQ's. THey sound excellent ported, so you may want to go that route as well. I have used them in both sealed (~0.85 cubes) and ported (~1.5 cubes gross) I would never go sealed again unless I had to because of volume constratints...they sound that good ported, and they take the power. Two D2's will be either 1/2 ohm or 2 ohm mono, and the D4's will be either 1 ohm or 4 ohm mono.
thanks curely. that was really what i was looking for. but seems like setting up 1 idmax is gona cost more than 2 idq's. will the idmax bump harder and hit cleaner than the 2 idqs? or vice versa?

Again, that's a function of the box, and the amount of power you have. Both sealed, and only 600W, I would do the IDQ's. 6-800W, a bit of a toss up, over 800W I would do the max.
If you look at retial prices, you can get a pair of IDQ's for the same as one MAX.
If you need a real deatailed answer to this one, call up Matt at ID...800-836-3051 x106, and he can really help you out. It may take a few calls to get him on the line, but it's worth it, and he can give you a better idea of what's involved in making that type of decision.
curley, im looking at 1 IDMAX from sounddomain, a JBL 1200.1 from MMXpress.com and a Q-Logic 12" Sealed box from sounddomain. do i get the v.2 or v.4 idmax? thanks for the help.
edit: i meant the d2 or the d4 idmax
shit, edit part 2: would you trust mmxpress? they sell idq 12"s for 150 bux each. and the jbl for 360. where as sounddomain ha them for 200 bux each, and the jbl for 500.

I'm sorry, but I won't allow you to use an IDMAX in a QLogic box!!!! Hell, I do'nt know if it would physically fit. Make sure you get a properly built and braced box. Either build it yourself, or find some one who can help you. You're in socal, so you could probably find some one to build it for your, or a shop that could help you out.
The beauty of sound domain is that they are authorized, but I would check around your local dealers. I got mine from a local authorized dealer for 350 out the door.
For the amp..why not go to scala1 on ebay? Very reputable...the only reason I suggest them is that I have no experience with MMX, but search over at sounddomain, and I'm sure you will get feedback on them.
Either the D2 or D4 will work, but I would buy the D2. This would be better for resale, as most class D's don't have a problem with a 1 ohm mono load, and it can also be wired as a 4 ohm mono load for the class a/b's Some one may have a better argument for the D4, but that amp makes the same amount of power at either 1 or 2 ohm mono.
Hey if you're interested, i'm selling my set up for $450 it has 2 IDQ12s in a custom enclosure box made to spec by a guy named John himself at Image DYnamic warehouse in torrance and with a crossfire 600watt amp, let me know if you're interested, i'm also located in LA area so we can meet or something. Let me know, thanks.

Sounddomain will pricematch IDMax's for under 400 I believe. (350 or so?)... I am biased to DEI, 1100d with a D2 Aside from that, If you can get a good deal on Sounddomain with the pricematch you may want to look into a nice a/b amp (if you REALLY CARE THAT MUCH ABOUT SQ), 2001 Kickers or something similar.
where can i tell sounddomain to price match $350? the lowest i have seen online is around 420 or so. please give me a site that i could have sounddomain price match for me. thanks.

sounddomain was price matching caraudiocrazy.com - they used to carry IDMAX's for 299...the word got out, and they no longer do it. The problem is that the other site that they match to is supposed to be an authorized dealer of the product...since sounddomain is the only online authorized dealer, good luck on getting your pricematching done. I got my horns pricematched, but I bought my MAX local for 350.

You should hit in the low 140's with a single sealed IDMAX and about 1000W....again, that's a guess and is dependent upon the car, box, etc.
If you want to go for spl, call up ID and ask them what type of ported box you should go for. They should be able to get you some dimensions.
