Issues With Power

ok just recently got my system done and finshed but im having a problem with this is what im running

alpine cda-7977 head unit
JL 500/1 slasher
JL 300/2 slasher
JL TR 6.5 coaxial in the doors and rears
TMA components in the q form kick panels (5.25 i think)
Infinity perfect kappa 12 dvq

i have an optima red top and everytime if i turn it up to loud or start driving sometimes the speakers and sub will just cut out for a couple seconds and come back on....the audio shop said it could be the battery not puttin out enough power to run everything. it makes sense i mean those amps do take alot of power but what im wondering is how can i fix this?

should i think about mounting another battery somewhere just to run the system? if so how would that work well by keeping it charged i mean.

Thanks

When the system cut out, does the HU display blank out too or does it keep on playing?
Have you tested the voltage on the battery with a Digital Multi-Metter(DMM)?
How high is the gain turned up on each amp?
Does the lights dimm when it cuts out?
Does it cuts out mainly when a hard bass kit?

Have someone turn up the system and you take a look at the amp. When it cuts out, does it goes on "Protect" mode?

Have you done the "Big 3 or Magic 3" wires upgrade?

If you are running that in a 89 CRX, I am guessing the problem could be that it is an older car and you may have some electrical problems with the car itself. Like the altanator or so is dying. There are many reasons, just a thought.

the headunit keeps playing just everything else cuts out....the audio store did a battery test and i think i remember them saying it would drop to 11 volts when it cut off.

but pretty much what you asked hard bass cuts it out and usually when i slow down like to a stop sign. i dont think the lights dim when it cuts out just the speakers/sub

what is protect mode? is it one of the lights on the amp that flashes?

the audio store reccomended another battery mounted somewhere where i dont know but i dont know how that would work. would a upgrade on the alternator help at all you think?

thanks

protect mode the amp will light up a different color or the light will flash or something.. check your amp's manual to see what it will look like.

Yes a new High Output alternator may help but I wouldn't invest in that kind of money just yet. I would do the BIG 3 wire upgrade first.
Here is a nice write up on how to do the "Big 3" wire upgrade.
'How to' upgrade the big 3

Adding a 2nd battery won't do anything unless if you like to listen to your music a lot with the engine turned off. Then you can add a deep cycle battery to your system. But the problem with that is you will be putting more load on your car's alternator which seems like it is being overworked already. Remember the job of the battery is to start the car and to run anything electrical in your car WHILE THE ENGINE IS OFF. When it is on, you are using the alternator. Putting another battery in the trunk is more headaches then what its worth unless if you really need to.

Again, what is the gain set to on both amps?

i had the same 2 amps for over a year and they never cut out with my stinger batt and oem alternator. what gauge wire do you have? i had 2 gauge in my car. also upgraded 3 grounds and alternator charge wire to 4 gauge, and power to main fuse box under hood. (this was in my 97 civic, not rsx)
