Use a Digital Multi-Metter to check your battery voltage. When your car is off, it should be around 12v and when you turn on your engine it should be around 14v.

You said it only turns on for a few minutes. Does it turn back on when you restart the system again or is it completely dead?

You can have as much accessory you want, when you start your car, it does not run on the battery any more, it runs on the alternator. The battery is only use to start your car and to run anything else when the car is off.

Thats not quite accurate, stock alternators are only designed to recharge the battery under a limited load, if the power being pull from the battery is greater then the alternator can return, the battery will slowly lose its charge(power), and can burn up the alternator. The older the battery the greater the possibility for the battery to lose its charge.
