steering wheel audio controls

okay, my moms explorer is for sale and nobody is buying it. o have a question about the cd player because i will probably get it. the stock cd player has no display, many explorers have this problem and its like $300 to fix. i would put my cd player from my civic in it, but there are volume and track controls on the steering wheel. is there a cd player i can buy where i can use these controls? im gonna put my system in it and dont want the stock one. thanks fellas.

You may be able to retain the factory steering wheel controls. Does your aftermarket head unit utilize an infrared remote control? If so, PAC (Pacific Accessory Corporation) probably makes an interface you can use (like the SWI-X).

those interface pieces are a pain to hook up. most stores that carry them charge like $60 for the piece and another $60 to put it in. easy way would be to go to a wrecking yard and pick up another ford cd player.. if you have to have the steering wheel controls that is..

On the contrary, they're actually quite easy to install. Just need to install the IR transmitter within line-of-sight of the head unit. And who wants a Ford OEM head unit (yuck!).
