Nah, a clay bar won't won't take off your clear coat. A clay bar is like a cross between wax and a rubbing compound. It will take you all the way down to your clear coat (through all the wax and any other junk that might be sitting on top of your paint). After claying your car, I would follow it was a glaze and wax. Set aside atleast 2 hours, for the whole process.

Clay bar won't remove all your clearcoat, but depending on which clay bar you use it might remove some.

Some clay bars have abrasives in them to help remove embeded contamination, this is not necissarily a bad thing since all polishes remove slight amounts of clearcoat. Its nothing to worry about.

Very minor scratches and swirls. Many manufactures put abrasives in the clay bar to aid in removing the contamination, but with the quick detailer lubricant it doesn't remove many scratches.

ok...

this is what you do...
I detail for a living so this is how to remove scratches and clay bay is used to get the over spray off your ride after you just sprayed it,and you didn't mask it correctly.

to get scratches out you must get a polisher of some sort prefebly a air compressor one that runs about 2500 rpms thyen get a ruff rubbing compound. do you whole car with that, don't hit handles or mirrors and stay off one area for a long time.
then wash your car with mild soap like dish soap.
then use polish do the same as above then use hand glaze use a rag aply to say your hood and fender let dry rub off with another rag that wount scatch then a door and a qurter panal don't do the whole car at once it is hard to take off if you follow these instructions and don't burn through the paint your car will look like it was just painted besides the rust ang the dints! if you have some oh ya you burn through if you stay in one spot for say 2.5-3 seconds.
GOOD LUCK!
