205 or 195
I need new tires
bad.
I have decided on the Yokohama AVS ES 100.
Seem decent priced and for a fairly good performance tire.
Not to mention v-speed rating.
Question is though, I have 205's now
But will going down to a 195 make that big of a difference
I mean sure the 10 mm difference means a smaller contact patch.
I have rota grids 15x6.5 and running a 205/50/15
will the 195 leave the lip of the rim exposed?
Just pondering idea's and sizes.
Any one that has run both sizes or one or the other share your experiences and opinions.

no 195s will be no problem putting on those tires, but honestly 205s will give you a better feel for the road
i say go with 205s

I would say go 205.
The avs es 100 is a good tire for the price, but its way to easy to make them squeal like a pig. When I wore mine out, I went with the toyo t1-s. The toyo handled better in the wet than the yok did in the dry. I'd suggest spending a few extra bucks and going with something like the Toyo proxes 4. Its an all season that will handle just as well if not better than the yok.
www.edgeracing.com has them at a decent price right now.

205 ftw in this case, 195 always seemed too skinny to me.

don't know how cheap they are currently, but kuhmo's spt is a pretty damn good alternative...
i used it when i first started autocrossing my daily driven civic 4 years ago.

not to hijack the thread, but how well do 205's go on a 6.5" wheel? i have 195's on my civic (15x6.5) and the sidewall of the tire is a little wider than the lip on my wheel

take an aluminum bat to that bish and roll out your fenders...
i was in a rush and hacked my inner lips... but at full compression during a really hard hairpin corner, only my right rear still rubs... gotta roll that lip a bit more, but it's too friggin' cold outside, and i'm lazy...

195's it is
I love how they look on my car.
Going with the toyo proxes 4
you can't beat 58 dollars a tire.

He should be fine with the 195. It doesn't sound like he is really pushing his setup to the point where he needs the widest tire possible.
