EG6 Suspension Setup ideas

I'm looking to finally do the suspension on my EG. It will be a semi-daily driver but I want auto-x performance as well. My friend's similar vehicle uses Progress springs and KYBs. I'm thinking of another direction.
In my dvd of Best Motoring Int. "Evo Strikes Back" there is a nicely setup EG6 built for the Touge challenge that was built by Spoon Tatsuru Ichishima. I screen cap'd his setup....

So the idea is to duplicate this setup (perhaps without the costly Spoon components). I wish they went into more detail on his configuration but still there is some good info here. I really like the look and handling of his setup. All ideas and comments from experienced EG6 owners welcome...thanks!

though i don't have an eg...

don't give too much into the jdm parts hype...

i'm guessing you haven't participated in an autocross event yet?

here's what you should do...
that that eg STOCK and race in your first autocross...

then the second...

then the third...

at this point, you might start to feel what you would really need...

in the end, the best you could do when upgrading your suspension would be to get ground control coilover sleeves and koni yellow dampers...

why do i say that? because it's been proven many times over by national champions and consistent drivers...

every tell me i should get tein coilovers... but why? just because they're hyped in super street? and these are the same people who "need" takata harnesses but will never see a road course or even DRIVE it hard enough, but the stuff in those dirt track nascar are cheaper and do the same thing, with the same quality...

save your $2000 for that spoon shock and spring combo and spend $800 wisely on something that's proven to work on our own roads...

let me know if this helps you out...

No, I haven't auto-crossed it because it is the stock 93' CX mush. Plus with the added front weight of my swap it's even worse than stock. I have auto-crossed my S2000 and drove my aformentioned friend's civic.
To your other point, yes $800 is about what I would like to spend at the start. GC's and Koni's do seem to be a common upgrade. Any input on spring rates?
Thanks for the feedback.

toast,
i envy you... now it looks like i'm going to seeking your advice!
you see, i am going to be getting myself an s2000 to replace my civic later this year! what a friggin' coincidence!

but as far as spring rates go, just give ground control a call...
they can walk you through which rates would be best for you, based on your wants/needs/goals... far better off to go with them, since they are in direct talks with other fellow autocrossers/daily drivers with civics...

they can even do custom rates if you need too!

Actually it would be ridiculously easy to build a comparable car as long as you are committed to *NOT CUTTING CORNERS*. Here is a simple list of steps :

1 - Get integra front lcas & press in new hard-rubber bushings (use integra so you can have mounting holes for sway bar).
2 - Fresh OEM bushings in rear with integra rear lcas (again for swaybar holes).
3 - Integra 24mm front bar
4 - ASR/Comptech 22mm rear bar
5 - GSR/ITR brakes front/rear
6 - Good Tires
7 - Good Suspension (PIC coilovers are incredible and reasonably priced).
8 - Get car corner weighted.
9 - Integra OEM front strut tower bar
10 - ITR front subframe brace
11 - Quaife Steering rack
12 - Add an LSD (Quaife or OBX)

I've actually pretty much done this list to my car and I'm in love with its handling. I should have some track vids to post up after the next HPDE event.

I would seriously recommend PIC coilovers over ground controls. The PICs will run about $1000 for the ones with adjustable dampening. Not much more than koni/gc setup but you get a *MUCH* smoother ride on the street because the dampening is much better.

what people forget about with the koni/gc setup is that you have to get the konis revalved (about $125 each) if your spring rates go past about 500lbs. So the cost of a track koni/gc setup is actually more than the PIC coilovers.

To get started, bushings, sways and tires will really bring your car back to life.

hey common,

thanks for that info... i didn't even know about pic!

where and how much were you charged for corner weighting?

if you make it out to pocono raceway, you may see my roadcourse noob ass there this upcoming nasa season.

I love my PICs.

I actually corner weighted it myself in my garage. Its a tedious process but worth it. I took it to a shop to have it corner weighted after I did things myself and found that I was only off by 4lbs Most shops will tell you that they will get the car to within *50*lbs.

Expect to pay ballpark $200 for corner weighting. However it is a must to get the car setup properly if you get coilovers.
