Civic to Integra Front Brake Swap
it's been a while since i first started thinking about doing this, but after autocrossing for the last 3 years, i want to move up a bit from my current set-up of brembo blanks and hawk pads...
i had been having trouble with my brakes for while until they supposedly got fixed...
however, they don't seem to be up to task, as far as biting as hard as it should...
at first i thought it was a matter of bleeding the brakes, since the rotors and pads were replaced only months before and until then, had been working great... however, bleeding did nothing to improve things...
next was changing the master cylinder to an integra/civic ex version (i had done a rear disc conversion prior)...
that did not do it...
i had a mechanic take a look and came away with an adjustment needing to be done to the front calipers...
things improved greatly, however, i still cannot get the brakes to bite hard enough to even lock them up if i tried...
since i was having trouble with all this, i thought the next step would be to possibly upgrade to integra brakes in front...
if i do this, what are all the parts i would need?
thanks in advance!

have you tried a different pad besides the hawks? might wanna go that route before dumping cash into a whole different setup. there is a project mu pad that bites really hard initially. i think it's a drifting pad, so it might work well in autocross where you're only out on the track for less than 2 minutes. also, are you trying to gett the front to bite harder to get the rear to rotate or are you trying to really get the car to slow down faster?

al,
it's not that exactly...
something truly feels amiss with my brakes...
imagine, just driving to 60, then braking full force...
the calipers don't seem to, at least FEEL, like they are grabbing the rotors as hard as they should...
the pads checked out perfectly fine...
about 2 years ago, when i still had drums in back, the hawks and brembos were phenomenal!
it was only in the last half year, that stuff didn't feel right...
i know the capabilities of this setup should be alot better than it is acting right now...
lending me to think that my front brakes, at least, disregarding the relatively new pads and rotors, needs to be replaced entirely...
seeing as i have clocked 340,000(!!!) miles on my car...
original engine and tranny no less...
that is why i started thinking, if i do have to replace stuff, i might as well upgrade to parts from the integra, as i already have the rear discs...
incidentally, the rear calipers were replaced this year too...
look forward to hearing from your feedback!
btw, how's the old touge burner doing, pare? i'm flying over to japan to visit my wifey's family!

ahh gotcha with that many miles, i think it would be a good idea to replace the calipers
uhm well the rotors are the same for the integra and civic...so caliper sizing should also be the same.
and i just looked up some part numbers and assembly diagrams for big brake kits and it looks like the spindle is also the same for civic and integra...meaning an integra caliper will bolt up to the civic spindle
there was no indication whether the ITR setup is different...but i don't think it is.
edit: oh and the mr2 is down at my mom's house. i'm in the rx8 right now. i'm having my turbo rebuilt

al,
the thing that brought on this whole idea to do this conversion is when i saw a guy with a civic just like mine who had totaled his dc2 integra and swapped the front brake parts...
looking at them side by side, the front rotors on the gsr integra are definitely bigger than my dx rotors...
i know the rears are the same from gsr down to ls integras...
he had mentioned he swapped the uprights (??? ano ba yan???) and i thought he mentioned axles...
this kind of swap should not cost a lot of money to do...
in total, when i swapped out the drums, all the parts cost me about $260...
i'm hoping about the same for the fronts, if only i knew all the parts i'd need.

ps... i'll be sure to say hi to nomu-ken as uras monkey magic and his other shop are right next to fukuoka airport, right in my wife's neighborhood...
he has to autograph my other racing glove! i need to get another set when i go to autobacs so i can frame the signed gloves...

OOOOooooo you have a dx. DOH i guess what i was looking at was EX stuff. but...quite possibly they might work if you are upgrading the rotors as well. they would all bolt to the same spindle (are they floating rotors?)
i don't really have any details on specifics, but i can help you think about how to attack it.

well, yeah...
i will be upgrading to gsr brembo blanks and hawk pads as well...
from some googling, i came across a bunch of terms...
knuckle, brake assembly, the aforementioned spindle...
but, as i am not mechanically saavy...
by the way, could you explain floating rotors?
and i've seen the term sliding calipers a lot recently in reference to the new imprezas... is that a reference to what stock hondas use, as opposed to the multi-piston calipers used in high-perf/racing applications?
i'm like fujiwara takumi... driving talent modesty with an absolutely hopelessness about anything mechanical... pasensiya lang, ha?

oops, i thought i replied to this...my bad!
the knuckle is basically what the spindle is on. i think for hondas they are just one part.
to my understanding, floating rotors aren't bolted or screwed onto the spindle. like my car, i can remove the caliper from the knuckle and the rotor slides right off.
