Talking B16 swap guide

Hey everyone,

I'm doing a jdm b16a swap in my ef9 and I need help finding parts for this motor. I need to replace parts such as timing belt, water pump, etc....and I want to know what kind of car/motor I need to buy these parts for. I have already ordered the clutch kit for a 90' integra. I was told to buy parts for a del sol, but does the engine number even matter? (ex. b16a2 and b16a3?) As long as it's for a b series then it should be compatible right??? How about type r internals in a jdm b16a? Is it compatible? Do I need to bore anything out? How will it run and what will the specs be as far as compression and things? Anyone know of a site that will offer detailed info on swapping this motor in a ef9, complete tearing down and rebuilding of this motor including torque specs, compatibility of other motors, and other misc. stuff that the b series motor is capable of? I would really appreciate it! This is my first project car and I basically want a mild street car that will be daily driven dependable and have enough "umph" to get on the freeway. Anything will help and I'm looking forward to learning new things from you guys......

Thanks....

If it is the original OBD0 JDM B16 with cable operated clutch on the tranny, then you probably got the right clutch, as I don't believe it is compatible with the 94-up hydraulically actuated clutches on B-series. Elsewise anything tuneup you need can be from any B16 vehicle.

For aftermarket stuff pretty much any cam/valvetrain parts for DOHC VTEC engines will all work for you. If you are talking about getting into the block, stick with specifically B16 parts when it comes to rotating assembly. Pistons are interchangeable but compression varies from motor to motor with the same piston, so know what c/r you will end up with before buying. If talking about Type R pistons, make sure they are Civic R, not Integra R or you'll lose compression rather than gain. Connecting rods in your B16A are shorter than other B-series so those aren't interchangeable. However the Integra R intake manifold fits your motor.

Thanks lots man.......this really helps out. I wasn't sure if all b series were interchangeable but you answered my questions. I didn't know that integra type r block internals would make me lose compression and that some parts are longer/shorter than some. Wow.....I feel pretty stupid....LOL... Thanks man!!!
