Question boost Q W D16y8

i got a 98' DX, d16y8, and i'm wondering if the stock
internals will hold up to 8-10psi of boost? i was gonna go
mini-me & swap heads but its turning out to be to pricey
fer the gains.... and if the stock bottom will hold up
should i build up the top end???? any suggestions???

yo your best bet is to rebuild the motor. like better head gasket upgrade your fuel injectors, sum je pistons, cam gears and cam. oh yeah, sum valves. i cant remember everything, but im sure sumone will tell whut they think. they might even tell u i dont even kno whut im talkin about. but thatswhut they are here for, to help and correct. i tried......lol :

yeah I really don't think all that would be necessary, I'd stick to the 8-9psi range and maybe try 10 but thats pushing it, still at that point all you should worry about is prob pistons, rods, and maybe some head bolts, honda blocks are actually pretty sturdy pieces of equipment, theres a guy in my town running a 125 shot on an internally stock B18c1 w/ no problems, granted the D series is not as strong. If you really want to turn up the boost then I'd look at doing pistons, rods, head bolts, and then valves, springs, retainers, sleeves, etc

Safest bet is to run 6-8psi if you are not going to upgrade the internals. However you can pull off 8-10 psi on stock internals if you tune it very well.

I would try it, and at the first sign of trouble either lower the boost or back off the timing a little

i'm sorry but i'm a lil confused by your post. you said 98dx with d16y8 motor. as far as i know the ex was the only one with a d16y8 motor.
then why would you change heads?? the d16y8 has vtec already.

now back to your question. 8psi should be ok assuming your motor is in good condition and not with too many miles on it.
you could run 8psi if the motor is tuned well and as long as you dont beat on it all the time.
if you want 10psi all the time and you really want to abuse it then you'll need to work that motor.
get some lower compression pistons, beefier rods, better head gasket and some good head bolts.

well well, to answer you're first Q it's either y7 or y8 i can't recall right now ..it's late.I'll check
the eng.code later. and it's deffinately no v-tec. It's a bare bones 1.6 sohc. and besides, they never
put v-tec in the dx,. also yes I want to run boost but don't yet have the funds to work the bottom end yet
the car currently has 58 thou on it and i don't beat it to much. i'm just trying to find out if it will hold up W boost about
15 thou miles or so till i gets the funds.. no what i mean? anyway thanks guys for all the info. you've
been a big help.

Nope, thats not a d16y8. You still shouldn't try running more than 6-8 psi without building the internals. Also, you shouldn't try more than 5-6psi without an intercooler and fuel management upgrades.

sorry I can't ban somebody on my own and I really don't think thats grounds for one of the admins to make a ban, but compact racer you've been warned, that was totally uncalled for, toddnos was just kidding around, sometimes we all do that on the board, it would have been best if you had just PM'd him or something and let him know that it bothered you, but toddnos, that wasn't very nice :/ either, esp because compact racer is new and he may not know that people are always kidding around on here and to be honest you are breaking the rules too because you really should make only relevant posts, if you had made a post before and were part of the dicussion going on I wouldn't really care but you really haven't contributed anything to this thread, so you are being warned too

you would still need a high flow in-tank fuel pump along with either an FMU or some sort of fuel controller like the Apexi AFC, a Hondata or AEM EMS.
