Civic Engine Swaping Help!

Hey Guys!

I have a 97 JDM Civic HB and I would like to pop in a B16a or maybe even a B18c.

How easy is this swap? Will they fit easlily?

What are some of the issues, that can come about during and after such a swap (engine mounts, suspension)?

Your knowledge about this is most welcome!

Thanks

p.s In addition to direct info...please recommend websites that I can view with info

Get used to using search...click it, in the box, type in "Engine Swap" a long ass list of topics will come up that will cover EXACTLY what you are asking. How do I know this? Because probably six or seven DOZEN other people have asked that question before. It's almost like the initiation question to Super Honda.

Anyways...onto your question.

Yes, the B16A or B18C will swap into your 97 Hatchback without too much trouble at all. You'll need a 99-00 Civic Si rear engine mount, AC bracket if you have AC and want to keep it. Come to think of it...if you're going with the B16A engine in your hatch, use the mounts from a 99-00 Si and it'll be a bolt-in procedure as far as the engine is concerned. For the ECU...you can run a 96-97 Del Sol VTEC ECU or run a OBD2a -> OBD2b harness adapter if you want to run the PR3 ECU. Run 99-00 Si, 94-01 NON-Type R Integra, or 94-97 Del Sol VTEC Axles.

My humble apologies on my forwardness!

The engines actually come with harness,ECU,etc.

I take it the SI mounts...can handle the extra weight..right?

Thanks again

The 99 Civic Si has the same engine bay dimensions as your car. it comes with the B16A in there. If those mounts work for that B16A, it'll work for the B16A that you want to throw into your car. A B18C isn't *that* much heavier than a B16A. The slight difference in weight isn't a factor to the stock 99-00 Si engine mounts.

If you are really that worried, you can spring 400 bucks for some after market engine mounts. 400 bucks could go a long ways to replacing the clutch in your swap engine before dropping the engine into your car.
