cross model distributors

Does anyone know about how honda cross applies their distributors to different models?

I bought a d16z6 distributor to go on my b16a1 motor, which someone told me would work.

And then my distributor in my b18b motor died, and I noticed that the b18 and the d16 have the exact same plug adapter and pin configurations.

I've heard from someone about there being a white plug distributor and a grey plug distributor. And about there being a VTEC and non VTEC distributor.

Anyone care to shed some light on this?

ok heres what i know
the grey plus is the new stlye pulgs on any
94+ integra
92+ civic
92+prelude
94+Del Sol
the white ones are
88-91 CRX/Civic
90-93 integra
the old preludes
88-90 legends

the difference in the plus are the plugs it self
but between the Non- Vtec and the Vtec distributors is the arms on the case that connect to the head of the motor.

the Vtec had 3 arms 2 of them are almost striaght acrros from each other and the the 3rd one is straight up

as for the no vtec distributors
there 3 arms also and they just cant be put on a v tec head with out modifcations

like on a GSR or B16 ... is you have the Grey stlye plug, and you have a LS distributor... line up the top hole and find out which lleg to cut off... the one closest to the vtec silnoid. thats the ghetto way of doin that if you dont have the cash to get a new REAL vtec distributor.

thats all i know

So then would a d16z6 distributor (92+ Civic EX) work on a b16a (92+ Civic Si)?

From my understanding
All
Vtec D-series distributors work on all D-series vtec engines
Non D-series distributors work on all D-series non vtec engines
Vtec B-series distributors work on all B-series vtec engines
Non Vtec B-series distributors work on all B-series non vtec engines
Except the B16A 88-91 Honda changed the distributors for the B-series in 92

This would only work provided the same OBD was used
