First off, no you can't. Secondly, even if you could it would be nonsense. Ditch a 2.0 liter K-series for a 1.8 liter B-series? The platform for the next decade of Honda performance is already under the EP3 hood, why exchange that for an engine designed 20 years ago?
a k20a2 is only a few bucks more and will drop right in with minimal headaches. Getting the b-series in there is truly a bad idea and just plain wasteful.
I wouldn't even buy a K20A2 swap, he could piecemeal stuff together since he's already got a K and save money. As with any of Honda's lower level engines in the same family, the trans is always an effective place to start...go for the RSX-S 6-speed. Personally for a swap I'd be shooting for the TSX K24 if you were trying to upgrade. Same hp as the RSX-S, more torque.
Actually there are so many differences between the k20a3 and k20a2 that its a real pain trying to piecewise upgrade a k20a3. The 7k redline of the a3 makes it a bad mate for the close geared 6-spd from the a2. The bottom end of the a3 is what makes life difficult. Low compression and only half the counterweights on the crank. But the a3 responds very well to boost. It is essentially the k-series version of a b18b.
Mods: one time i tried to list them and i ran out of room...if you really want to know ask me.
if you have any mechanical ability, my personal choice for a street setup would be a k20a/a2 head, k24 bottom end, and an 06+ civic si trans (gears on par with 05-06 rsx-s, but with factory lsd.
the cam angle adjustability on the k20 heads (50 degrees) is far superior to the limited range offered on the tsx's k24a2 (25 degrees)...as the necessary range of intake cam adjustment for optimal power on a modified engine is upwards of the tsx max.
