Wanna turn my B18b1 into ls/vtec! How much?

Ok so i've decided I wanna get rid of my b18 head and go ls/vtec with a b16 or maybe a b18c if I can find one fairly cheep.

NOT INCLUDING THE HEAD...about how much is it gonna run me parts and labor?
I know what needs to be done I just dont remember it exactly, to mount the head on there and activate Vtec. Im pretty sure I will also have to swap the ECU and go obd-1 since my car is obd-0. its a 90 DA9.

ls/vtec

If you are looking to swap the head on your b18b, you should be prepared to to spend at least $800.00 (that include the head). Since you mentioned labor I assume you are not doing the work yourself. Be sure you have an experienced mechanic do the work. Some mechanic my talk you into drilling the block in order to create an extra oil supply. However, you can purchase a kit from Golden Eagle that will not require drilling. If this is your only car, take your time and do the work right the first time. Good Luck.

$800.00 is a lot cheaper than I thought!! Yea I have heard of the kit from Golden Eagle but I also have read up on guys drilling to make the oil supply. I know I need to do a little more research so i know by heart exactly everything that is required. Wish I didnt live in an apartment!! Gotta depend on other ppl but for a job like this I trust a good tuner...the question is where is the tuner I can trust? The guy who did the swap I believe runs a boosted Ls/vtec. If I have the money I would like to get the head ported before puttin it on, but we'll see. Im pretty sure im gonna have to adjust the fuel pressure or program the ECU if more air is goin in and out.
Im still learning!

websites

Don't say I never gave you guys anything. Checkout this website:

c-speedracing.com

Everything you need to know about the ls/vtec swap is on this website, including detailed photos in the event you wish to drill the block.

Also, be aware, when you upgrade your ecu, you will get a check engine light. It's only because the computer is looking for the knock sensor. Try to find a computer that has been programmed to bypass this sensor. You know where to find me if you need more info.

When I end up doing the head swap I was thinking of going Hondata 100 or 300. Is it possible to program the ECU so the engine light will be fixed? Yea I heard about the knock sensor thing from this book im reading, and after consideration I think i'll stick to GE's kit since most ppl on the forums love using it and have little problems. I've even heard some ppl keeping there stock LS head gasket rather than using the GE one? Whats your take on that?

Thanks for all the info!!!

ecu and head gasket

Yes, the ecu can be reprogrammed to ignore the knock sensor. Companies such as hondata can do the programming. As far as the head gasket is concerned, the ge head gasket can be purchased with the same thicknes as the ls stock gasket. If you decide to use the stock gasket just be aware that you will need to make an extra hole for the vtec oil feed between the block and the head. It's just simplier to purchase the ge gasket. There is no guess work and it fits perfectly. Also, if you do not mount the gasket correctly, you engine will leak oil. This is a crucial part of the build. Which is why I would stick with the pros on this part.
