2000+ GTi VR6 or 2002+ Spec-V?
2000+ GTi VR6....or....2002+ Spec-V????
Well I have made up my mind on these two and have done a good bit of research o both of them and they both are pretty equal IMO with their pro's and cons, but which would you choose.
This would be my daily driver and I would more than likely put basic mods on them (I/H/E/Cams/Tune/Sus/Rims). The car would see a little track (drag strip) time and if I can find a road course around where I live (I really haven't looked for one though) I would take it racing.
My price range is $8k-$12k. I really don't want another car payment which is why I sold my Alty, but will need another DD soon.

hmm i would get the GTi VR6 cus that motor is crazy but the chassie is top heavy. but the GTi has the oh shit style when modded and has the best back seat for a hatch, better than the jetta lol. the the V-spec is nice, maybe more reliable, an ok 6-speed, 4 door, and good suspension.

Actually the VR6 seemed to be a more reliable engine. There were like 7 recalls on the Spec-V in the first few years. If I recall correctly 5 of them were for the engine, but they were not serious recalls though.

Yes. That is the one thing that throws a wrench into this.

vr6 all the way. Great interior, great response to mods, where as with the spec v unless u go boost or a full suspension setup...i really dont see you seeing much difference in performance (in my oppinion the spec v is kind of maxed out for a sentra) they have obvious potential but i think youll be happier with the numbers of the vr6 and the resale value as well.

Every single time I think GTI I think emomobile. Emo kids seems to have an attraction to Veedubs. With that said I'd take the Nissan as it will also be more reliable.

Well I am far from emo, but I think I am going with the GTI. Just trying to find the right one.

I'm not intending to down on your enthusiasm, but most of what I hear about 4th-gen GTIs is how heavy, soft, unreliable, and badly in need of an LSD they are, while I also hear quite often that SE-R Spec Vs drive a whole lot worse than they look on paper. Just my 2 cents. I looked at both (optimistically, didn't have the cash) a long time ago when looking for a car and was turned off by these things. I think the GTI would be a better choice of the two though, because the interior is a LOT nicer and the engine is a beauty, although maintaining it could get a little pricey.
Trying to think of what else in that price range meets your criteria... I'm sure there's quite a bit, but I haven't looked in a long while so I don't know what's in that range anymore. If it were me, I'd look for something older yet "better", along the lines of a 300ZX or RX-7 perhaps. I dunno, just some ideas.
