My roommate and I have been working on his golf and don't know much about VW's and what really works with them. I was wondering what engines are compatible with his car. looknig for something to turbo in the future and will be an easy engine to locate parts for. Anything will help..
buy a 1.8T and you'll already have turbo, should be easy to put in there, considering some golf's came with it

Mods: b18 swap, head work, cam gears, UDP, no ps or a/c, gutted.
personally i would like to see a VR6 super charged. it also can be done in the golf. way cool, and nuespeed has a ton of aftermarket parts for it. they have quite abit for the 1.8t as well.

my girl drives a 99 vr6 with many upgrades and she walks the dog on most stock v8s. her next upgrade is a paxton supercharger which will put her at approximately 500 hp after getting it tuned
