since i've owned both a honda and a dsm i'll shed some personal experience on this.
back in 1999 i purchased a used 1993 with a messed up motor. few months later i found a crashed 99ex and got the motor/transmission/axles/shift linkage and put in the dx. all for about $1000. added few other mods such as i/h/e, suspension, rims/tires, and a ecu from a 95 civic si. so after all that and few other minor thing i was very close to 5k dollars.
it was a decent autox car but never ran better than 15.2@92mph in the 1/4.
i know honda's are supposed to be reliable but i've had more problems with that honda than with the gsx and gvr4 combined.
fast forward two years...sold the civic and got a 91gsx. thing was in really bad shape. took about 2k dollars to fix parts that needed fixing such as wheel bearings, breaks (lines, pads, rotors, master cylinder), rims (stock ones were warped), ball joints, tie rods, battery and other shit.
after fixing all that was replaced i moved onto modding it. threw in a k&n filter and act2600 and took it to the track. first pass ever was a 14.3@94 with me driving like a moron (not knowing how to launch an awd dsm) and ending up with a 1.9 60" time (horrible by awd dsm standards). few mods later (exhaust, safc, boost controller, injectors and fuel pump) car was running hi 12's low 13's on the stock turbo, stock motor/head, and it had 130k+ miles on it.
then i sold that and got the gvr4 which has quite a few more mods than the gsx but still has a stock block/head and runs 12's all day, every day since its my daily driver with about 195k miles on her.
that bs about awd being slow from a roll is just that, BS. i can find several videos that show awd vehicles spanking fwd/rwd vehicles from a roll.
crankwalk? yes there are dsm's that have crankwalk but so do hondas, toyotas, mazdas, nissans and several others. plus you have to be an idiot to build a 7bolt motor (although few did it and have had success with it).

your opinion is based on solely your experience, if that was enough to justify anything in this world, we be in a bigger heap of shit than we are now.
all you did was KEEP that pos civic motor, are you pple not fukin readin his ORIGINAL FAWKIN post?
FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!!
what the fuk is so difficult to understand bout a MOTOR swap? a RED TOP H22
plus a dsm with 5k?
man im fawkin unsubscribing from this thread, SHO got some non readin and comprehending idiots, "bs" like wat you just said justify you knowin shit bouit a dsm and a honda....all you showin is that you cant stick to car long enough to know how to fukin turn it on.
man, im outtie.

yes i speak from experience. how may fucking dsm's have you owned?
IMO a dsm with 5k worth of mods will spank a civic with 5k worth of mods.
if you dont like that then that your problem.

I agree totally. Its near 2 seconds faster in STOCK form, its already boosted, an AWD can run easy 13's with a K&N, turboback, mbc and race gas ALL DAY. I dont understand whats so hard to get. Heck my FWD ran a 14.1 with the above listed mods w/o a downpipe!
Besides, stock UNOPENED 4g63t motors have gone 10's!
i agree even a hatch 5g in mods cant touch a dsm with 5g in mods. bone stock a 4g63 motor can hold 25psi and with a metal head gasket about 30, of course thats with bigger turbo and injectors. i had an awd dsm with a 2.3 stroker, beat the hell out of an rsx-s and i had fuel cut like a bitch, i had to keep letting off the gas. it wasnt because of a bad driver eather, this guy has beatten cars that an rsx-s just shouldent be beatting. i for one love dsms and wish i would have never sold mine.
they all got lsd(this will help from a dig, but its nothing compared to awd)
my bet is on the red top H over dsm any day.
the only swap that would pull down a dsm is the red top H, lets check the price of those......
30018 - H22A Type S 97-98 Complete Motor,Trans,Ecu
220Hp 163Trq 11.0 Compression (JDM)
$ 3600.00 Plus shipping and handling.
so that leaves you with 1400,you still need motor mounts, the right axels, fluids, wiring utensilsmoney goes quick when swapping hatches, and trust me, i know... therefore a redtop H is not feasible with this budget, and a ITR is sure as shit not feasible being they cost 4000-5000 now with 5k into a dsm...
3k for a decent AWD car,
2k, for a new turbo, tune up parts, SAFC, wideband, altezza lights and bomb azz neons
Power: DSM>Hatch
Reliabilty Hatch> DSM
gas mileage Hatch>DSM
ill run my DSM vs a red top hatch any day any time, and i know 100% ill win, because i know what my car is capable of, the fastest ive seen a h22 car go stock was 12.7 and that was a stripped out Euro R swap EG hatch with a quaife LSD and bolt ons....
