HYPOTHETICAL question/random bantering about cars.
well humph.
im currently rocking my 96 prelude si which i want to get rid of soon.
i also just bought a 90 audi 200 turbo quattro that i was going to do some work on; but now im having second thoughts. after driving it daily for a while etc i dont really know if i like how the car feels all around.
anyways, if i sold these 2 cars, lets say the lude for 5k, and the audi for 2k. ide have 7k (damn my math is awsome.) plus a couple more grand from savings/working etc. lets say i have around 9 or 10k.
what could i get that would satify my need for a fun to drive car, fast, moddable, pretty decent gas milage (im not expecting civic hybrid type gas, but i dont want 10mpg either) and fairly reliable (its gona be a daily driver!)
now ive got a bit of a split personality when it comes to cars so here are various cars that have ran through my mind.
1. early 90's mitsubishi galant vr-4. -same drivetrain etc as a dsm which means its very easy to make fast, awd, and since it looks like a galant its a sleeper with 4 doors. gas milage would be so-so depending on how crazy i got with mods. only downfall is they are hard to find and could be unreliable.
i wont have to worry about doing a motor swap or lack of traction. cheap insurance.
2. mid-late 90's subaru 2.5RS impreza sedan, wagon, or outback. -awd stock, but if i got this particular car ide eventually/have to swap a JDM sti motor in. the good thing about that is i hear any EJ series motor will fit into pretty much any mid-late 90's subaru. thats why i threw the outback in the line up. wouldnt mind having a outback run 12's. downfall is that ide have to drive around in a pretty regular subaru for a while til i got enough/found a sti motor. i dont know how rare they are.
also ide have to do a swap, which i would rather not do but if i have to, i have to. insurance would be cheap. fairly reliable.
3. mid-late 90's civic hatch. - i threw this one on my list just because. its not my ideal choice but lately ive been admiring a lot of peoples clean looking hatches. ide probably want to throw a k20 (thats a rsx motor right?) in there with the basic bolt on's and then some. the reason ide do this over a typical boosted b-series motor is simply because if i had a hatch ide probably want to do some autocross/road racing where ide need usable torque and power and not have to wait for boost. although boost would be fun.
insurance is cheap, gas is cheap, but theres no traction, no room in the car, and did i mention NO TRACTION. parts are easy to find, but ide hate to get grouped into the "ricer" category because im rockin a civic hatch.
4. early 60's VW bug. -ive always liked these things. cheap gas, pretty cheap to find. but its definitly a project. most likely it would be slammed to the ground like this one
only problem with this is it has NO A/C. thats almost unbearable in AZ summertime. motors are easy as hell to work on, and swaps can be done in a few hours tops.
they are slow as dogs from the factory but a lot of people swap big motors in them or turbos and actually make them fast. lightweight, rwd, rear motor is a good recipe for speed. who knows if i would ever actually make it fast tho. ide probably try to make it decently styled first.
ive pondered the idea of buying a bug and driving when im not working on it/in the non-summer months. and then having a civic hatchback or something else to pull out of storage somewhere and drive in the summer. and maybe i could swap a motor into the hatchback when i strike it rich and have 2 cool cars? i think im dreamin then tho.
5. number five is open to some other suggestions you guys have. POST THEM UP!!!!!

LT1 Camaro, shit you'd prolly be able to find an LS1 for that price
there's a 99 SS Camaro in perfect shape for sale in town for $7700
faster then most cars, reliable, and still gets 25+ mpg

19-20 just driving around normally, 28-32 on highway trips (depends on hills).
