well with a rear mounted turbo you will have more heat issues than with a front mounted turbo...

id go for a front mounted twin turbo set-up from Banks Power

Banks Power

thats the one to look at

how's that?

banks does make good kits, but they're quite expensive compared to piecing together your own setup.

well the heat from the engine will affect the turbo which will inturn affect performance... which is why front mounted turbos perform better, for longer than rear mounted turbos...

and the twin turbo kit from banks isnt that expensive... sure you could piece together your set-up and maybe save a few hundred... but you will pay for it with stress and waiting and hoping you got the right parts...

if i were to turbo a V8 i would use the banks system, spend a lil more and be happy knowing what i got will work the way its supposed to... it would also save me time

so in my way of thinking its like this

Spend less $ build your own system, but enjoy added stress, added time, and definetly added frustration, oh and dont forget making sure all the parts are the right ones and that they are all there otherwise you gotta figure out where to get it...

or

Spend more $ on a complete system, and enjoy less stress, less time, way less frustration and knowing all the parts are there, and if parts are missing its easy to get a new one...

id spend more money just to know its gonna cost me less in the long run, be it finacially or emotionally

how could it possibly be cooler under the hood than it is out back?

that's definitely a way to look at it.. i'm no fabricator or anything, just not rich & not scared to fix whatever breaks.

i had to look at the vid he posted after your most recent post...

when he said rear mounted turbo i assumed he meant rear of engine, not rear of the truck...

with the turbo nearly all the way to the rear axle, you would have some MASSIVE lag to contend with... heat transfer from the engine wouldnt be an issue... however there are other things i would worry about...

such as water and/or mud splashing on to it causeing the water to be sucked into the turbo and then all the way into the engine...

id worry about the water splashing on the turbo and causing the turbo to crack or warp...

forget any 4x4ing as you would have to be extra careful for clearance issues...

the air filter would need frequent changing....

i think the only good thing about having it that far back would be ease of fixing it

Definitely you will have some problem with water and mud. After looking at the video I suggest you go for the front mounted.

2 guys garage did a rear twin turbo on a Corvette, They said with it being in the back actually helped it spool faster. I would think it would have some major lag though.

Haha, you wouldnt need an intercooler though. By the time it gets to the intake its already arctic...

Rear mounting a turbo wouldn't be for maximum performance.

Log mani's spool faster than tubular manifolds but they choke faster.

The farther away from the combustion chambers the turbo sits the more lag it will have. Also the longer charge pipe is the more lag you should expect.

In the case of a TT vette, it may help somewhat since both turobs may be capable of getting ALL the exhaust force... depending on the setup, but realisticly the same conditions apply. The closer the turbo is to the original combustion the more force will be exerted on the turbine, thus spooling it more effectively.

For Higher boost applications you would most likely still need an intercooler.
