considering purchase of nsx, have questions

I am considering purchasing a 91- up nsx for around 25k and was wondering.....Is maintenance any harder on this car than any other Honda/Acura? Are parts outrageously priced it being an exotic? How are these cars in the 1/4 mile? I know it isnt made for that, that's just one of the things I wondered about these cars....Thanks for any help!

Good luck finding a well maintained non salvage NSX with under 100k miles for 25k. Also it's hard to get a bank loan for a 13 year old car. So better have the cash.

Ok, lets assume you buy a NSX for 25k, they are out there but they have issues. The issues usually consist of neglected maintainance, prior damage, or high mileage ratty condition. These usually consist of clutch (1500), timing belt and water pump (1200), and missed 60k major services (500). Parts and maintainanceare not outrageous, but they are more expensive than a typical Honda. 1/4 mile times for 91-96 NSXs are usually in the mid 13s.

In the long run you'll be much better off spending 32k and get a well maintained early model NSX with less miles. Reliability is typical Honda, depreciation is a non issue, and it's one of the greatest sports cars of all time.

Just an addition too what has already been added. My buddy has a hard time finding aftermarket parts... He'll call shops that advertise parts for his car yet they'll never have anything on hand, plus they'll never get parts in when they promise. This isn't any one specific shop, but seemingly ALL shops.

Also if you're used to working on your car, then be prepared for some frustration. His Helms manuals were $300 I believe, plus working in his wheelwells was very cramping and the midengine design isn't exactly easy to access too.

Didn't mean to throw cold water over your dreams, just wanted to prepare you via some observations I've had.

BTW: here's a pic I took of his car the other night

I'm looking for one as well. After reading numerous faqs and posts on nsxprime, the really big concern is the snap ring issue for those early year model. Just get the tranny number and check. The snap ring failure is limited to transmission numbers J4A4-1003542 through J4A4-1005978.
Before you buy it, just have a pre-purchase inspection by an NSX tech or an Acura Tech who knows NSX particularly well.

Just follow the recommended maintenance. They are pricier but they're worth it. Repair costs will run you up pretty bad. Assuming it's a manual, 1/4 mile time can range anywhere between mid 13's to high 13's. Again, I think you can get the most out of it on a track course since it handles well against the majority of other cars. Hope this helps, i would recommend checking out nsxprime for more resourceful info.
