and then i was browsing around nsxprime & this one thread was like, show off your widebodies. about a month or so ago, i was in memphis hanging out when i see this badass nsx roll up with widebody, cf rear intake scoop, cf air splitters, and other goodies.

Why is it that every single modified NSX I see has absolutely nothing done to the brakes? I see 19 inch wheels (which in my opinion looks retarted anyways) and behind them the stock brakes are hidden behind the wheel's center hub. Are they that expensive?

Yes everything for an nsx is 4-5 times as much as it is for a normal honda. Imagine having to spend a minimum of 1800 for a header system. Or 900 for an intake. The exhaust is all of maybe 3 feet of tubing, thats a minimum of 800 bucks also. NSX's have great breaking from the factory anyways.

Yes I've seen the prices of performance parts for the NSX. It's just like the M3, expensive because there are not many of them. Did a little searching and remembered www.scienceofspeed.com. Checking them it's around 6000 for front and rear brembos, 3000 for APR front and rear and the NSX-R brake conversion is 3400ish. Now that's alot... but if you're pushing 19 inch wheels (of which the weight and rotational mass increase would be incredible), 300+ hp and major aero adjustments you would assume that it wasn't that big of a deal to drop 6 grand on a brake system. Just my thoughts.

yes, shit is expensive, but you know what? BBK's are overkill for the street. remember that. they are totally unnecessary uunless you track every single weekend & have major brake fade. about the 19's being way too heavy & retarded? wtf??? they are volk racing gt-c's. probably one of the best racing wheel manufacturers out there. talk about fucking light rims. just let it go & enjoy the car for what it is

Heh... This is funny. 19 inch wheels will have an effect on braking performance wether they're lighter or heavier than a smaller diameter wheel. The fact is that the original 16 or 17 inch wheels on that vehicle put their weight closer to the center of the hub than 19 inch wheels. That makes them easier for the friction created by the brakes to stop.
Big brake kits aren't a waste of money. Anything that could potentially shorten your stopping distance or improve the modulation of your braking isn't wasted money. I would imagine with the 19 inch wheels and added weight of that vehicle the stock brakes are only slightly over worked.

......umm, no. lighter wheels = less rotational mass = better handling & better stopping, regardless of the diameter of the rim. centrifugal force doesnt come into effect here as much. when you are stopping or turning, weight matters much more than the size of the rim. and its easier to accelerate lighter rims too (duh).
BBK's are a waste of money if you have a STREET CAR. also to the point that if you do not track the car, you do not need BBK. it is a fact. and guess what, BBK's can POTENTIALLY stop your car by like 4 or 5 feet shorter from 60 mph than your stock setup. BBK's are not for shorter stopping, they are for BRAKE FADE RESISTANCE. thats why racing brake pads do not come into effect until you heat them up after several practice laps. another thing, brakes do not stop the car, the tires do. remember that.

One of the big reasons you don't find anyone upgrading their NSX brakes is that if the car is a 1997+ NSX your brakes are plenty sufficient, unless you do some serious road course racing. On my 1998, all I have to do is change to track pads (axis up front / cobalts in the rear) and the car stops like you would never believe. Yes, they don't look as pretty as the newer Brembos and what not, but the stock NSX binders are really efficient. Also, not too many people realize but the NSX type R actually uses the same brakes as the other NSXs, it just has larger slotted rotors, but the calipers are the same. Even the 1991 NSXs use the same calipers as the present day, it's just the rotor size that keeps changing.
