I've followed that car since it's introduction and the letters do stand for New Sportscar eXperimental.

Since the NSX was introduced as an image-builder, I think the marketing wonks decided all their products should have names that sounded like it, so now we have the alphabet soup system where they use that names don't mean anything at all.

Hey man, maybe you're closer then you think. Remember Honda was calling the Element the "Model X" when it was first being introduced as a proto. Who knows what the marketing folks will make up.
