jus bought a s2k, and thinkin force induction, thots?!
hey sup every1
i jus bought a s2k cuple weeks ago and thinkin goin turbo or supercharger. prob is i kno only vortech and comptech has kits for the s2k, by n e chance u kno any other kits out ther? and if so which one wuld u guys prefer gettin?
Speed craft makes a turbo but it is $6500. Vortech makes more power than the Comptech because of the aftercooler that vortech comes with. And you can vortech for cheaper than comptech...Personally I just bought the vortech kit...should be here 01/31/03. Good luck!
P.S. superchargers online has it for about $4500, or the guy I went through got for me for $4200 shipped. Let me know if you are interested. Lots of infor these kits at www.****.com....my PM there is spapdx.
Vortech is the way to go....lots of power, cheaper than comptech, only prob is because its a blower setup it makes the most power on the top end so the low end is still crappy...but then again that equals into somewhat good gas mileage still. The only problem is the install is a pain, the manual is like a freaking bible and the only problem that I ran into while installing it was that the edge of the aftercooler was touching the hood making it hard to close it (so no more just dropping the hood from 1 ft above) however that can easily be fixed w/ a Defender style cf hood from VIS or wheverever..the timing control from Vortech wasnt working right either..the car was running lean with the timing control so I ran it without it for a while.. also if your gonna get the S/C...make sure you get some good tires on the car first...the S02's would never hold up in the rear from the 1-2-3 shifts...got better w/ the yoko advans though =)
Supercharger is not a bad way to go.....
I personally opted for the Turbo. It depends on how far you want to take the performance level to. With the turbo, there is more overall potential, plus spool up starts with 3k rpm, thats a long ways to 9k. Let me know if you want more detailed info on the turbo.... I went to Nopi and did not see a better turbo kit up there. There were 2 others, one was a twin turbo. HA HA HA, neither one had been running yet and one had no oil lines and an obx muffler welded to the stock piping. Owner said it was a custom exhaust. I got pics and info....let me know....

You didn't buy the car for outright tunability I boldly assume. You bought it because of its handling, excellent transmission and 9k red line right? Exploit these traits, don't force yourself to change them. Look at the thread at the top of the page "High rev tunability" to see some cool N/A things you could do with the car
N/A doesnt do much for a S2k...w/ cams, vafc tuning, i/h/e...you'll be looking at 240-250@ the wheels...w/ all that money you could slap on a S/C for a little bit more and gain 60+- hp than you would by going N/A....
Ozy: I've been asked this question many times. First of all, Comptech has been building Honda Indy engines for quite some time. They know their stuff around the F1 circuit. Comptech's approach to their kit is no hidden surprise. Quality components tested thoroughly to verify longevity. The kit has quite a bit of heat soak. Because of that, my first run is my best run at the track. This is because the S2000's ECU is pretty aggressive at retarding timing to protect the high compression motor. I am ok with that because it is safeguarding my engine. In order to keep that from happening you need to reduce heat. An intercooler or aftercooler kit is the solution. Vortech's kit is slightly different. They try to make more midrange torque by using a blower with different boost characteristics. They then use an electronic "fix" to prevent the ECU from retarding the engine so aggressively. I personally feel this is a risk that I am not willing to take. I have had the Comptech kit on my car for about 30,000 miles now, and besides one broken belt, I haven't had a single problem with it. Not to mention that the whole Comptech crew (Bob & Shad especially) have the best customer service and satisfaction I have ever seen. They stand behind their products and will work with you through any issues that might arise. I am not getting anything for saying this, trust me, this is how they are. Comptech is also one of the ONLY brands of aftermarket equipment that can be purchased directly from Honda when you buy a new car from them. This should be a strong indicator also! I'm not saying that Vortech can't be similar, as they do have a strong history in the supercharger industry, but I don't want to be their guinea pig while they work the problems out of their new kit. Another reason is that the Comptech kit is CARB legal in California and does not violate any laws. The Vortech kit does not currently have CARB certification. This is a big issue if you get pulled over and asked to pop the hood!

Actually the s/c is carb approved...the only problem that i've run into w/ my experience w/ Vortech is that the timing control unit from vortech was faulty...kept the S2k running in limp mode..couldnt hit vtec...so we had to send it back in and have them give us a new one.....other than that the s/c was pretty good...install was a PAIN IN THE A$$ though....took us a week ...also i think comptech is like 500$ more than the vortech
I believe that Comptech is in the process of developing an aftercooler for there s/c. MidNiteMysT is right, Comptech has been around for a long time along, with Jackson Racing and Mugen.

Vortech already has an aftercooler.....if you want more info...look on s 2 k i .c o m ....take note that you'll see that 75-80% of them have Vortechs on their FI s2ks...why? ask them =)
vortech is not shitty...run a S2k w/ comptech vs a s2k w/ vortech the driver will be seeing the exhaust pipes of the vortech s2k...
Vortech.....Vortech owns the Comptech is almost every category except for the dealer warrantys since Comptech can be purchased thru a Honda dealer and it can be worked into the warranty...people say go w/ comptech..you do realize comptech puts out less hp..roughly 280 to the wheels vs the 320 from Vortech? (baseline and FI s2k hp/tq numbers "280/320" will vary from others due to the many different kind of dynos out there) while at a 500$+ price? When your paying 4500-5000$ for a S/C most of us wouldnt mind saving the 500$ which could be used towards paying someone to install it..you guys do know installing the s/c is roughly a 17-20hr job right? Vortech is a great company, they may be young but they bring out good stuff, tech support was awesome too when we were having problems with the timing box...
Comptech also boosts at a lil bit lower than the Vortech(7psi)...the Vortech being a blower based S/C can also be boosted higher the the roots type Comptech....max psi on the Vortech blower is i think 35psi@55,000 rpms
