S2K In Chiacgo snow.
Hey, I'm looking @ getting a used S2K once spring rolls around. I currently own 2 Acura RSX's and will be selling them to buy the S2K. I've been seeing them for about 15-16 for an 00 01 used w/ about 45-50k miles on them. How is that on price?
Also, it will become my daily driver. I will need to drive it in the snow so I will prolly just get a set of steelies w/ blizzaks or something on them and throw some sandbags in the trunk. In chicago our streets are plowed pretty much the second the snow hits the ground. Is there any problem with driving the S2K around in the winter?
Thanks.

2 questions:
1. what are blizzaks??
2. when u say sandbag the trunk, is it to make more weight in the rear to catch more traction??

blizzaks are probably the best snow tire you can buy as per rep and if you put bags in the trunk it will apply more wate to your rear tires and that is where the weight is... those are your drive wheels..

I have 2 RSX's because I bought one to repair that was in an accident. Making some nice buck off of it.
2nd, yea the sandbags are for more weight in the back for more traction.
For me, I just don't see the point in buying a car thats fun, just to leave it in the garage for 6 months out of the year. To me that's abusing the car more than taking it out :\..
I have alot of patience in the snow.. I mean, it can't be that much worse than the RSX in the snow.. you touch even a patch of ice the size of a remote in the RSX, and it's like your car is defying all laws of physics.
Usually in Chicago they have the roads cleared before I leave for anywhere, and calling into work and college is not a problem due to my distance from them. I've only driven like 2x this year when there was actually more than 2 inches of snow on the ground, and at those times I borrowed the neighbors SUV.
This car WILL be my daily driver so..
Also, 70k miles, too high for an S2K?.. I'm looking in the lower year used range.. if I look for a while I can find 40k miles ones for a decent price.. but..

I drove mine for about 4 winters as a dayly driver. YES to the blizzaks, but sorry, no steelies for the S2000. Your best bet is to use your stock wheels for the winter tires and buy a nice set of summer rims. And BTW, I am SO GLAD I stopped driving mine in the winter. Yeah, it sits all covered up in the garage, but I'd rather know it's all dry in there rather than plow the roads with my front bumper. When I drive, nothing is cleared. Not even on the freeway. It's a pain. But I got by without the sandbags. The Blizzak WS-50 has got to be the best snow/ice tire out there for the money. Feels like your driving on a big sponge and you can't go any faster than 80, but when you need the traction, you got it. You also have to be very careful that you make the switch as soon as the pavement reaches an average temp of 40 degrees, or you'll tear them to shreds within two weeks.

once again... the words of wisdom is going to be passed down... the s2k is like a really hot girl... that car will slap you in the face if you dont know how to handle it.. and this is on tarmac with no ice or rain!!! its a fine line between gripping and losing traction in that car... speaking of keeping the car in garage seems like a good idea to me but dont go buck wild with it... it will come back to haunt you!!! ohh and s2k in the snow is like.... i dunno depends on what kind of ice... if its slush... GL HF!!! GG NO RE

Ice kingdom?! no, The "Frozen Tundra" would be the more aplicable term, but I live south of the official Packer Land of Green Bay in WI. I love cold places, which is I supose a contradiction to driving a convertable sports car, but I tend to try to get the best of both worlds. I love the mountains where it's cold, and when I'm done climbing, it's 80 at the bottom.
What I hated was driving my S in the winter. Sure I did it for 4 years, but I had to. This year I bought a FWD waggon for a DD.
As far as how I drove my S in the winter, . . . a touch of insanity. I'll leave it as that.
