04 element, took it 4 wheelin!!
i bought the 04 element exs 4wd yesterday and today i took it out w/my little bro and we went down a pretty tough area where all the monster trucks go and the little element performed quite well. i didn't stay too long or venture too far as there was no one else around and i hadn't been down there b4, but was pleasantly surprised w/the off road experience. the little element took the bumps and plowed thru the mud like a pro. i can't wait to do it again!!

ice chest!?! ha ha ha
i've been over all impressed so far. the element handles real well on the road, the suspension is nice and tight, takes the curves well, accelerates and brakes awesome. the stereo, omg, i've never had a stock stereo that sounded so great, 270watts with a front subwoofer. i just dropped it off today for the rear air spoiler, roof rack, fog lights, tow package and a 10inch drop down dvd w/wireless head sets, gonna be awesome, can't wait.

ha ha ha, good point, just b/c it's honda doesn't mean new and better things are coming for off road. look at the average 4wd suv these days, they seem to be pretty versatile.

Lord no, I wouldn't wish a Scion on my worst enemy. I wouldn't even take a Ranger off-road and expect it to hold up and go through anything remotely hard.
SUV's today suck for anything off-road. The only decent SUV that would stand up to any hard core offroading is the Excursion. Everything is made for street use where 95% of SUVs today spend. While most 4x4s today can go through mediocre mud puddles, when actually put up against something hard, parts start breaking.

I have a '96 Tahoe 4x4 that does as good as my buddys Jeep. I has a 3" suspension lift and a 3" body lift on 33" tires. It holds its own and loves to pull other trucks out of the mud. I'll post pics later. I have a pretty good on of Haspin Acres in Indiana.

Awesome. Jeeps are definitely one of the best factory off-road vehicles you can buy. They're small enough to get around most places. Only downfall to them, the axles are small and you have to start doing upgrades if you want to run tires over 33".

I see you're in Florida but will you have any chance to get that thing in some snow? I'm curious to see how it does on slippery surfaces.
I like how practical the element is but unless it can pull itself through anything I'll encounter on the way to the mountains I'll take the WRX instead.

My buddy Allen has Jeep that has a body lift and 35" tires, straight 6, 5 spd. He Twisted the front driveshaft by doing a Wheelie (no JOke) on the road. We didn't get it on tape, and for some reason he won't try it again. Good stuff. Yeah, Jeeps are good for the tight places.

Since when is this the jeep discussion thread? j/p

I would've loved to have seen video of your friend doing a wheelie with it. I'm laughing here just thinking about it. :clap

Oh yeah the Element is cool. I'll try to get him to do another wheelie. He has a high dollar drive shaft now. We'll see what happens. Oh, 4th gen. Civic HB's are fun in the dirt too. Go honda!

How did he twist a front drive shaft? Trying to get an "AWD" launch?
Most SUV's today are good for snow covered streets and wet fields.
