b20 tranny.....

I recently bought a b20 tranny and a b16a to mate it with... now my question is, what the hell is the cable coming from the front of the engine, where is it going? is it some kind of wot switch for the o.d.? if so can I bypass it orshould I somehow try to attach it to my throttle body?

The way you worded that question, Im going to assume you are refering to an automatic transmission. Anyway, that cable is the shift cable. You will need to attach it to a shift lever inside the car. Depending on what year b20 trans. you have, you may also need to install a o/d switch. Also, the b20 trans. are controlled by the ECU. The CRV engine ECU also controls the transmission. So it may be difficult to get it to work with the engine you are wanting to mate it to.

Could be either one; AWD or FWD.

it's for a fwd and I no which one goes to the shifter inside the car that's not my problem. the o.d. switch is my problem. My other tranny was also controlled by the ecu. it was auto as well. how would I install a o.d. switch when it looks like the o.d. is controller by a cable... it looks like it connects to the throttle body.. it looks more like a w.o.t. throttle switch for the tranny. I think I may cut it off and clamp it off when I get it all together so that it doesn'nt go into o.d.... it'll use more gas but i t's ok.. I'll always be in low gear. top speed will suck but it'll sure as hell make up for the lack of torque that the b16's have.btw your sol is pimp as hell.

There shouldnt actually be any cables connected to the transmission at all since it is all drive by wire. From what I can tell, one wire harness comes off the side opisite the enigne side witch is the gear select switch. The two wire connections in the back are for the counter shaft speed sensor and the one closest to the engine is the vehicle speed sensor. The one wire connection in the front that you are refering to is the mainshaft speed sensor which along with the counter shaft speed sensor tell the ECU when to shift the gears. The only other wire connections are to the four solenoids; two on the top and two on the underside towards the front. The only other connections would be the two transmission cooler lines. The overdrive is completely controlled by the ecu which in turn activates the solenoids to switch into overdrive; there are no cables, everything is completely controlled electronically. Now, how the overdrive is activated is completely up to the ECU. On 97-98 CRVs the overdrive is controlled the same way the other gears are; with the shift lever: P R N D4 D3 D2 D1. On 99-01 CRVs the overdrive is controlled by a switch on the end of the shift lever; so there is only P R N D3 D2 D1 on the shift lever with an o/d switch on the end. The transmissions are basically the same, its the ECUs that have different peramiters and wire connections depending on which year CRV. Your best bet is to get the wiring diagram for the CRV and determine which way would work best for you.
